Strength:

Good sound.

Weakness:

Grill cloth is not removable.

I chose this model to match the BP2004 because Del teh has no C/L/R 2004 and I do not like the C1000. The style does not match.
The model is C/L/R but I tried to connect it to the left or right channel and found the sound is far to be qualified as a L/R channel.
It reproduces clear sound in dialog and does a good job for its role.

Strength:

gloss black end caps, crystal clear sound

Weakness:

little bass response

This is a awesome center channel. The highs and midrange are crystal clear. The bass could be a little stronger, but hey thats why they make subwoofers. The gloss black end caps give it that style and elegance that this speaker deserves. Even though this speaker has suited me well, I will be upgrading to the clr 2000 in hoping to get a better bass response. Also it will match up with my setup a little better.

I own a 2002 system with bpx surrounds. The 2002 l/c/r is good but hardly great. Also thx speakers have a narrow vertical pattern not horizontal, and imaging is not the ability to hear where the sound is coming from with your eyes closed. It is the ability of a speaker to "throw" a sonic image into your room. Almost see the instruments and singer..

Exceptional sound reproduction for this center channel. It simply never seems to stop amazing me. It is a terrific match for my BP2002TL speakers. Movie dialog is clear and pronouced. Using this with the Denon AVR-3300 in 5 speaker stereo is truly magnificent and fully immerses me with clear and well defined music fidelity.
I've listened to many other center channels; KEF, Monitor Audio, B&W, Paradigm, NHT and they just couldn't move me enough to choose them. I highly suggest you give this speaker a listen. Make sure you listen with the other matched speakers and also by itself. You will hear and feel a definitive difference (pun intended).

After all the reviews, I was surprised to hear it, and the sound was not like any other speaker I have heard. The bass was the deepest, but very muddy and the notes rolled on forever, and the midrange seemed to get lost. No impact. The Klipsch RC-3 $349 was the winner with Mission C2 $499 next and the smaller Mission and my 1996 Pinnacle Widecenter all distant last in overall impact. the future is full range centers and there are too many center channel speakers that don't even have 5 1/4" woofers--the bare minimum IMHO. Seperately I heard the $499 B&W CLR S2 and this may be the most incredible full range center under $500, or $700 for that matter.

I spent 3 months interviewing Home Theater speaker systems. I wanted to test some Definitive Tech 2002's before making a purchase. My local dealer set up some 2002's in a demo room, but left some mini-speaker as a center channel. This was a good thing because I could tell what sound came from the center vs the L/R. I even disconnected the center channel to focus on the 2002 towers.
The 2002's were impressive, but not enough to get me to buy without a center channel. Another room had DefTec 3000's set up in a home-theater setup. I was getting ready to leave when I spotted a lone speaker sitting to the side of the room with the 3000's. I picked it up and it was a 2002 C/L/R -- the matching center!

I went back to the small demo room (the 2002's had been removed) and locked myself in. For the next hour I ran my favorite DVD's and CD's with only the center channel hooked up. This speaker was very, very good. I could listen to almost an entire movie with just this speaker. Not using L/R speakers I missed some sounds, but only because I had played various chapters over and over and knew what to expect. It was amazing how good the male/female voices were. When you add in the special effects and music that comes through the center, I could almost forget that the L/R were missing.

I wanted to buy a Polk CS1000p - A $1000 center with a built-in 150w sub. I wanted the DefTech 2002 L/C/R to fail so I could justify buying the Polk system. For over an hour I tried to find some problem with this speaker....but I could not.

(There was one thing: people talk about "imaging"-closing your eyes and telling where the speaker was. I have only noticed this with inexpensive/tiny center channel speakers. The DefTech 2002 seemed to "hide". Several times I had to go and put my hand on the speaker to make sure the sound was coming from it and not from some other hidden speaker. The 2002 just sat there saying: "I don't know where all that sound is coming from. I'm just sitting here.")

I don't like THX speakers because they seem to have a narrow horizontal focus - You have to have your head in this "sweet spot". With the 2002 I stood above it, level, and I even layed down on the floor. The sound did not change. I even went far to the left and right -- It still sounded great. (Note: I was in a "listening room" of a high-end audio store with low ceilings and acoustic wall hangings. The room was acoustically "dead" so people could focus on the sound coming from the various speakers. There were no echos to help this speaker out).

After about an hour I gave up on trying to find a problem with this speaker. It was wonderful. It passed every test that I knew how to do.

I went to the salesman and ordered the center and matching 2002's for the L/R. I got to take a center speaker home with me, but I have to wait for the 2002's to arrive. I continue to carry my test DVD's around and I listen to speakers by M&K, Auria, Polk and Energy whenever possible. Even speakers at twice the price offer no improvement over the 2002 c/l/r.

Strength:

Great soundstage, impressive clarity, lots of punch, great value.

Weakness:

None

This speaker is absolutely one of the best center channels in it's price range. I auditioned several other center channels (many costing several hundreds dollars more) and none could even come close to the Def Tech 2002. It's sound is absolutely impressive (driven by an NAD T760) and I would undoubtedly recommend it.

I recently upgrade to this center from the pro center 2. Eventhough both use the same driver, there is a huge difference in sound. The CLR 2002 IMO is much more natural and robust than what I've had, but not over whelming. All I can say is just give it a listen.

Strength:

Build quality, finish, performance, design

I can't say enough about this speaker. This is an extremely clean and accurate speaker. I have never heard dialogue so clearly in my system. Bi-wiring this speaker offers improved clarity.

This speaker is designed as a sonic match for the BP2004 speakers that I use up front as well. A great combination with the BP rears as well.

Strength:

Sleek looking, very clear and detailed

Weakness:

none yet

This is the best Center channel that I have listened to. By far the most detailed and the imaging is just great. All that I want to say has already been said, so there is nothing left to say.

Check it out, you won't regret it
