A fantastic center speaker. DVDs sound great with it and I'm very pleased I made this purchase. Getting it for 30% less than retail was also quite nice. bonus. I have this center in a package that inlcudes Def Tech ProTower 400's for the front and Def Tech ProMonitor 200s for the surrounds. This setup sounds fantastic.

Strength:

solid bass, clean vocals, basically an overall well-balanced sound.

Weakness:

non that I have noticed so far

Well, to be honest, I've been "into" home theater for some time now, oggling every new home theater magazine that I could (and can) find. I have, however, have just begun purchasing my home theater gear, as the funds were previously unavailable. Anyway, I've had my eyes on Definitive Technology for quite some time, and I recently purchased 3 CLR2000s from Ultimate Electronics. One of the speakers I purchased for 650 (new) and the others I purchased for 300 (floor models). So basically, I have 3 CLR2000s doing the duty for the center and front speakers of my home theater setup. I must say that they sound wonderful. They are smooth, have very good bass extension (considering they each use 2 6 1/2 inch woofers), and can play fairly loud, even with my cheesy receiver (which I plan to upgrade shortly).
On a sad note, I don't think (but I'm not sure) that the CLR 2000 will be available much longer; the sales-dude at Ultimate Electronics said that Definitive Technology is discontinuing it. Oh, well...at least I got three of 'em. So now, all I gotta do is get me a pair of BP30s, a couple of subwoofers (I'd like to get a couple of Earthquake Millenium 15s, but there kinda expensive), and some surround speakers (BPVX or BPXs). I dunno...that's a lot of money, so I'll see.
Anyway, the CLR2000 is one heck-of-a speaker. Get 'em while they last!!

Strength:

Tight clean bass, clear highs and mid

Weakness:

Large size

For reference sake, to let you know my setup: I have a Marantz SR-19 receiver with Def Tech BP2002TL's fronts, CLR2000 center, and BP2X's for the rears. The center and fronts are connected by XLO Ultra 6 cables, and the rears with Monster Cable MC500's.

I originally purchased the CLR2002, and was slightly dissatisfied. The 2002 had the clear highs and mids, which are so important for reproducing dialogue, however they lacked the bass response I was looking for. When sounds would move across the soundstage (from L to R or R to L), they would sound fine as they started, but when they got to the center, it sounded "wimpy." Now, of course the bass isn't going to match the 12" subwoofers from the BP2002TL's, but it bugged me to the point where I had to go switch the center. I went back to Audio King in MN, and with my receipt and 30-day return policy, I swapped the CLR2002 for the CLR 2000.

The CLR2000 does just as well at reproducing the dialogue like the CLR2002 did, but the bass has more umph, if there is just a description. When I play my DTS CD's, I am very pleased by the sound that comes from the center channel. It is a excellent center channel speaker, especially when it is timbre matched with other Def Tech speakers.

I would highly recommend this speaker. Always go take a listen to hear them for yourself, but if you are trying to decide between saving some money and going with the CLR2002... Do yourself a favor and at least audition the CLR2000's. Remember, a very high percentage of the 5.1 information encoded on a DVD is sent to the center channel. Therefore, you don't want to skimp out on that piece of hardward. The extra money you put into it will be worth it!

Strength:

Clarical, very warm. Has a nice robust punch. Biwireable.

Weakness:

Very big, heavy for a center channel. RECOMMEND: For use with RPTVs or on Entertainment centers. Direct TVs don't bother! End caps are held in with weak plastic dowels which break off. You can fix by using wooden dowels.

I purchased the CLR 2000 with my BP30s. My first impression of the CLR 2000 is that it is very big and quite heavy. So I would be leery to put it on top of any Direct TV. The CLR2000 has a nice home on top of my Hitachi 53SDX89B RPTV. During the installation process, I then adjusted the rear foot and put the blue tacky stuff under the front of the speaker. From there I connected the speaker with one cable and using the jumpers provided.

My first impression of the speaker was that is was a bit too high for me. So I was hoping for the best since the speaker enclosure uses two 6.5" drivers. I broke in the speaker by running the system for a constant 72 hours with various test cds and varying volumes. After my proprosed break-in period ended, I soon noticed that the speaker has warmed up and the low freq in male's voices seemed to punch. The aluminum tweeter is one of the main reasons why this speaker is a bright to begin with so it really takes time to set it in. I also decided to biwire the speaker since the owners I have spoken to told me the DefTech love to be biwired. This promoted a more clarical, ariticular sound.

I have played with numerous setting for the speaker. I tried the large setting yet at higher levels the woofers began to be loose. The correction was to set the speaker to small.

My "current" system is as follows:

Denon 2800AVR
Toshiba SD5109
Toshiba M765
Hitachi 53SDX89B
TDS Enhancer II
Anthem MCA 3
Definitive Tech BP30
Definitive Tech CLR 2000
Definitive Tech BPX
HSU TN1220HO (2) sold HSU 500W amp.
Mackie M1400
DVDo Line Doubler
DH Labs T-14 Ban-Spades for Mains, center and subwoofers
Audioquest F-18 Bananas for Surrounds
DH Labs Interconnects
Tributaries Silver component cables
Monster HTS 2000 PLC

In closing, the CLR2000 can be quite expensive if you look the wrong way. But if you get it for a killer deal, it's definitely well worth it. I am very happy and pleased with my decision.

Since I am thinking about going to separates this year, I prospecting the notion of moving the CLR2000 to the back and getting the CLR3000. Hmmm..

CLR-2000 Has the same drivers as Definitive's BP-30's and the same crossover. This baby is made to last. Have Had it and the rest of my Definitive system for two years. Just recently got a Denon AVR-3300 and couldn't be happier ( Maybe with the Denon AVR-5700 ). The CLR-2000 matches perfectly with the BP-30's and Def-Tech's BPX surrounds. I also use two PowerField 1500 powered Subwoofers.I Highly recommend Anything Definitive.
