    Strength:

    Sound, price and looks

    Weakness:

Yet to be seen or heard.

I purchased these speakers on line a couple of weeks ago based on the strength of the many reviews I had read. Simply put, I'm well pleased. A few months ago we added a room to our house and I purchased the Polk Audio RTi70 tower speakers. I liked the product so much that I wanted to replace the JBL LX-500 bookshelf speakers I had upstairs with POlk Audio speakers. As mentioned, various reviews led me to the LSi9's. I'm absolutely delighted with the sound. I find myself listening to a variety of old favorite CD's and invariably hearing subtle sounds in the music that I'd never heard before. The high are extremely clear and the mid range is well pronounced and somewhat punchy. In other words it has the character of speakers costing far more. The bass is amazinging for a bookshelf speaker, but I do use a PA 10 inch sub. The only downside is that the initial pleasure that I got from listening to the RTi70 has wained a bit. Given a choice, I go upstairs. The LSi9's clearly outperform the RTi70's. I highly recomend these speakers.

    Strength:

QUALITY, CLEAR SOUND, Bang for the buck

    Weakness:

Not enough bottom end for my taste.

I bought these speakers with high expectations based on reviews. When I received them I was very impressed with the build quality. They are HEAVY & they look great (Cherry finish). I hooked them up to my Denon AVR3200 and listened to varied music cds (70s rock, latin salsa, spanish guitar music, some hip hop) and select dvds (the rock, gladiator, etc). They sound great. The instruments are very clear, vocals are clean (listned to Mariah Carey cd very nice) and the HT sounds are powerful. My problem is that I did a head to head against my old MIRAGE OM8s. The Mirage simply blew them away giving me more of everything (base, & treble). They are also as clear as the Polks In my opinion the polks are great for the kind of speaker (bookshelf) and price. But I am sending them back this week. I am waiting on a pair of AXIOM M80ti. Maybe these will sound more like my MIRAGE and become the base for my new HT setup....

A few months ago my dad and I went to the H/E show in N.Y. and listened to ALOT of speakers. Some speakers costing as much as $50,000 and other speakers looking even more outrageous. Then we listened to the LSi9's and walked away saying "WOW". Ofcourse we knew the true test would be how they would sound at home.Well,I got them and hooked them up to my Sony STR-DA5ES(rec.),Audio-Metric AM441(amp),and Sony SA-WM40(sub)and again all I could say was "WOW".Now I know there are better speakers out there, but for the price there is nothing that comes close.Even speakers that cost much more don't sound as good. The sound is CRISP,CLEAR,and TIGHT.What a BEAUTIFUL SOUND!!!

    Strength:

Believe what the others have said. These are excellent speakers. Clarity, accuracy, and excellent soundstage.

    Weakness:

Nowhere to listen to them. But hear them if you can. Make up your own mind.

I wanted to upgrade my sound system, so I went to the usual chain stores and did not like what I heard. The speakers were too this or too that. So I started to research online. The Polk LSi series was getting rave reviews (and no negative comments), but there was nowhere locally to hear them. I decided to take the plunge and order a pair of LSi9s. I was not disappointed. These are fantastic speakers. I first thought something was missing in them. Then I realized, it was the distortion of many speakers that I didn't hear. These speakers are not what they seem. They are far heavier than they look, which helps to dampen unwanted vibrations. The tweeter is the star of these babys. It gives such clean, crisp highs- not harsh like some speakers. They really disperse the sound nicely. Play a clean classical recording and the notes just seem to float in the air. Play a DVD and dialogue is clear and easy to understand. If you want accurate sound reproduction, these are your choice. I was so impressed that I decided to complete my surround system with them. This is easy since the entire line uses the same drivers and tweeters. Matching is key for a good multi-channel system. I added the LSiC for the center and went with the LSi7s for rears. This really shines on listening to music in surround, but also works great for movies. The speakers are available in cherry or black. I heard that black wasn't as nice, so I went with cherry. The finish on the cabinet is as top- notch as the sound is. They are a 4 ohm speaker, so you will need a pretty good power system for them. My Denon 1802 seems to handle them OK even with five channels running. I don't play them at high levels.

I AM A LONG TIME OWNER OF POLK SPEAKERS. I JUST RECIEVED THE LSI9'S AS A GIFT.THE LSI9'S ARE THE BEST SPEAKERS I HAVE HEARD IN IT'S PRICE CLASS. I BELIEVE THE RING RADIATED TWEETER IS THE BACK BONE OF THE LSI9'S. THEY PERFORM OUTSTANDING THREE DIMENSIONAL IMAGING TO THE TEE! THEY BLEW MY RT35I'S TO DISTINCTION! SO I HOPE WHO EVER PURCHASES LSI9'S ENJOY'S THEM AS MUCH AS I HAVE.

    Strength:

Highs are detailed and clear. Mids true to life. Bass.. well that's what they make subwoofers for.

    Weakness:

    None so far.

I've owned a variety of Polk Audio speakers in my life and these are by far the best speakers Polk Audio has ever made (in my opinion of coarse). The ring radiator tweeter is the star of these speakers. The clarity and detail is there without the harsh / distorted sound of some of the older Polk models. I was going to go with Paradigm until I heard the LSi Series. Yes, believe the reviews. Do yourself a favor and check these out at your local Audio Retailer. (Note: You won't find these ones at Circuit City!)

    Strength:

Sound on music / Heavy at 30 Lbs ea.

    Weakness:

None operational so far, Not enough dealers out there. I saved 400.oo on Mfr.'s retail through an online purchase, but there's allway's the Wty. question.

Belive the reviews ! These speakers are great for music and movies. Execellent detail and clarity. Good bass for a bookshelf speaker. I used my Boston Acoustic VR-970 subs and used the Lsi's in place of the 970's top end. I listened with the subs on and off, Switching between Lg and Sm speaker setting on my Outlaw-1050/Marantz MM-9000 combo. They sound just as good with out the subs on and still integeate nicely with the subs on. I like my 970's but I may have to consider upgrading to the rest of the Lsi line up because they sound so much better for music, At least old rock, soul and blues from the late 60's and mid 70's( Lsi ctr & Lsi 15/25 Fronts )

    Strength:

    Accuracy, Nature

    Weakness:

    None now

Yesterday I went to Ovation Audio store in Indianapolis, IN (Castleton) to borrow my Thiel speaker back from repair service. In the mean time, I got a chance to visit the store for some new stuff, and the salesman introduced me the new Polk Audio Lsi-9s. After auditioning and comparing them with Paradigm Studio 40 (I have been a Paradigm fan for a while) side by side, WOW, I was surprised to know that they sound really good and like Paradigm in terms of tonal balance and efficiency (88dB v.s. 89dB) although they were driven by a DENON 2802 receiver. Lsi-9 is accuracy and natural. Before, my image of Polk Audio is mass products for mid-fi or low-fi users, but the new Lsi-9 has totally changed my impression of Polk Audio to the best bargain in the Hi-Fi speakers as mentioned in The Absolute Sound (p 113, Issue 135, April/May 2002). In addition, I also auditioned Polk Audio LsiFX surround speakers. They are fantastic too. How amazing it is. I have been a music, Hi-Fi, and home theater fan for a while. I attend concerts and conduct choir regularly. My system includes Thiel speakers and Audio Research pre and power amps. I believer I know what the real music should sound. I always wonder why Canadian company, Paradigm, can make such good speakers in bargain prices but US company cannot. Now Polk Audio did it. It is so exciting. I know, I know the Lsi-9 can not compete my Thiels but they are in different price ranges. Since I was in a hurry to go home yesterday, I did not borrow a pair of Lsi-9 to home for serious listening. I plan to do it soon. As soon as I have more experience, I will share you. So far, Lsi-9 has impressed me a lot. If you are in the market of looking for speakers for music or HT, you must have the Polk Audio LSi series a trial before making your decision. They are 5 stars all around speakers. However, speaker selection is very subjective. You have to listen to them, and make your own decision. Also, if you are living around Indianapolis, IN, Ovation is an excellent store for AV stuff. Highly recommended. Regards, James Tang, Ph.D., P.E.
