KEF Q100 (Black Oak) Bookshelf Speakers

KEF Q100 (Black Oak) Bookshelf Speakers

DESCRIPTION

Unbelievably versatile, KEFs Q Series Q100 bookshelf speaker pair go from the study to the home theater room with ease. And with 100 watts of power, the Uni-Q high/mid frequency driver, and solid, controlled bass, the sound is nothing short of extraordinary.

Beautifully neutral with a slightly raised top-end. Exceptional imaging and sense of space. Uni-Q driver really exudes a sense of cohesion not found in many of other bookshelfs around this price. It sounds even better than its bigger brother, the Q300. I recommend a subwoofer to fill out the lower octaves. The Q100 works well near-field as well in no small part due to the coaxial design. Highly recommended in this price range. Amazon will sometimes have it on sale for $300 a pair - an insane value.

2013 KEF Q100 Review

A well-engineered speaker that presents a mixed bag, depending on your expectations. Firstly, these speakers require A LOT of warming in, a good 3 months of listening time was my experience before I felt they began to show their true capability.

I found this out....that when new, they sound very harsh and grainy in the treble range, and the overall sound had a dark and uneven representation. Example, music playback with very upfront percussion, but almost non-existant melody. It was very distressing at first.

If you experience this at first, try to hang with it and let them break in because they will improve over time, in other words, you need to keep two things in mind when buying these speakers, you need patience and most importantly, you need ample wattage to drive them properly. I would recommend no less than 50 watts/ch...
