Strength:

Good bass extension, very good imaging.

Weakness:

None.

These are terrific floorstanding speakers which would do well in most theater or 2-channel applications. I have them as fronts in a theater setup, and they are fabulous. Many folks prefer the Studio series when demoing in a store; don't sell the Northridge series short until you've given them a proper demo at home. Good base response, nice soundstage, and very good imaging--all important characteristics for theater use. In many rooms, you might be able to get away without a sub, using the N38IIs. Highly recommended.

Strength:

A tad top heavy. Very solid. Tight Bass responce from a "Reflex" speaker.

Weakness:

I little light on the Bass side, but don't let that change your mind.

These are actually the N38II's. These are simply fantastic speakers for home theater and or for music. The immaging these speakers create is simply fantastic. The sounds envelopes you even whith no special sound processing. They are very crisp and the bass is very tight, but a tad on the light side. If your reciever has the ability to kick up the bass a couple notches I would highly suggest doing so, but it depends on the type of music listened to.

Strength:

Great highs, mids and bass. Tight bass. Very goodlooking without the grill.

Weakness:

I blown a tweeter, but It was my fault, cause I play Queen´s Bicycle Race to high when the bicycles´rings start so it lbows. It was in full treble in the receiver.

I wrote a reviw about a year ago so I have try a lot this speakers until know. Overall performance? Great, just great. Sound very good with any type of music or movie you play them. From Rolling Stones to Pink FLoyd, amazing. If you play Eminem or Eric Clapton, amazing. Electronic music? great. Im using them with a Onkyo 494 reciever that handles 60 WT RMS per channel, so maybe with an 80 Wt receiver they should sound even better.

Strength:

Crystal clear high's, tight bass, plays very loud, no distortion at all, very attractive

Weakness:

flimsy grill

I Just recieved these today from bestpriceaudeovideo.com. I ordered them on Friday and were on my porch on Tuesday in perfect shape. I got the N38II which are no different from the originals in sound, just in design. Right away I was blown away by the sound. The clarity is awesome and there was more than enough bass, much more than i expected for an 8 inch sub. For the money, these can't be beat. I have each one sitting on a 12inch powered subwoofer so I have alot more bass if I need it. By the way, I recomend using dual powered subs in a home theater, it is so awesome, shakes the whole house. I knew these would be great speakers since I use JBL's in my dj system and they sound great! You will not be dissapointed with these and please don't listen to those stupid "audiophile" people, they deal with very high end equipment so of course these won't sound as good as the high dollar stuff that most of us can't afford.

Strength:

Great overall sound at low and high volume levels. Good design and structure. Good bass from 8" woofer

Weakness:

A little top heavy, but shouldn't tip over unless ran into

I received these bad boys for x-mas. I have them hooked up to the new Denon AVR-1803 and they sound awesome. I previously had them hooked up to a 3 yr old Pioneer receiver, they sounded good, but not nearly as good as the Denon. A good receiver does make a difference. These things sound great at any sound level, beautiful highs and lows. Very good bass for an 8" woofer. I couldn't be more impressed with the overall sound of these things, especially for the price. THe great thing is I am getting another pair for free b/c UPS dinged one of them up, a small dent on the top. It has no effect on the speaker and really isn't noticeable. Couldnt be more pleased with these speakers and am also pleased to be getting another pair for $0! Anyone looking for a very good pair of main speakers for a low budget cost like myself, being a colege student, get these bad boys. You won't be disappointed!

Strength:

Super clear highs and midrange. Excellent base response. Unbeatable price with relation to quality. A+ for JBL on these babies!

Weakness:

The speakers are somewhat front/top heavy. Nothing that a set of speakers stands wouldn't cure. Otherwise none.

WOW! I purchased these speakers at Bestbuy 2 days ago after some pretty serious research for just under 400.00 for the pair. The sound quality is unbeatable. I replaced a set of JBL J520Ms with the N38IIs as my main speakers, and moved the J520Ms to satellite duty. The N38s sound great by themselves in stereo mode and even better in the home theatre setup. The highs and mids are crystal clear and the base crisp and punchy. They sound phenomenal at all volume levels. As I said I shopped around, and in my opinion the N38s were equal to or outperformed similar models by Infinity, Polk, and Bose. If you are in the market for an excellent sounding pair of speakers and don't have a big budget, then go to your local electronics store and test drive the N38IIs. You won't be disappointed. My home theatre consists of: Mains: JBL N38II Center: JBL SC305 Satellites: JBL J520M Subwoofer: JBL PSW-1000 Reciever: Onkyo TX-DS575 DVD Player: Panisonic DVD-RV27 TV: Sony 32" Wega

You havent checked Sams yet????

No thats not a typo, 69 bucks each at Sams Club... Run, dont walk, and see if your local store has any. My AV reciever is a Denon 1801, and I am running JBL N 24s as rears,JBL N center, and an Acoustic Research S108 sub. My previous mains prior to these were JBL HLS 610s, which I really liked, but these just add a whole new dimension. They seem to blend so much better with my sub, not such a definitive difference in sound (by the way, that sub is unbeatable for 100 bucks) Very crisp, and clean, no distortion. My room is about 25x13, and they really fill it out very well. Home theater is awesome, cant help but smile every time the kids pop in a DVD of Monsters Inc. Sound effects used in that movie are a great test of your home theater.

Strength:

Incredible sound - from the bottom to the top. Vocal reproduction is excellent, and the sound is extremely well balanced. I can't say enough about the price vs. sound here. The best thing about these speakers is without a doubt the price vs. performance. Even at twice the price these speakers would be a good deal. A friend of mine has $1000 Paradigm speakers that didn't impress me. My new JBL northridge set made me drool. Perhaps it was just the different setups, but I know my money was VERY well spent.

Weakness:

Perhaps a little limited in the mid to lower-mid range. The speakers sound ever-so-much quieter in this range, but I have a slight feeling this may be due to my receiver. Anyway, even if it's due to the speakers, it's an extremely minor thing, and barely noticable. These are incredible speakers.

Holy crap. These speakers are incredible. I thought I had good speakers before, well, needless to say my old speakers will make nice night-stands. I can't believe the deal I got on this pair - $190 for the pair, with free shipping from J and R. They sold out not a few hours after I bought mine. In fact, I was worried that they would send me an e-mail telling me I was too late. Well, a week later I was enjoying some of the best value speakers in the history of man.

Strength:

Beautiful highs, super clean midrange. Classical Guitar truly comes to life. Bass is just adequate for my listening preference. Beautiful design (pleasing aesthetically with/without grills on). Good craftsmanship (solid construction).

Weakness:

I placed them on wood laminate floor, no tipping problem... Actually quite sure footed. On carpeted room, I did notice the front heavy tipping "feature".

GREAT BUY!!! I love these speakers. I researched allot of reviews and actually went to BestGuys and CircuitTown to do actual listening trials. JBLs all the way. None of the other came close. Several friends are blown away by the great sound. My buds have $500-$2000 speakers and still can't believe what I paid for these JBLs $99.00ea + $35 S/H. Ordered from ETRONICS online (excellent secure website). No problems what so ever. They processed order in 1 day, shipped UPS ground, received them when promised (5 days).

I sampled the following: Technics SB-A52 (3 way dual 12" woofers). Bose 201 & 601. Yamaha. Polk RTi28 & RTi38. NO MATCH FOR THE JBL N38 IMHO!!!
