Strength:

Power 125 watts Size Highs and Lows 20kHz-55kHz VERY revealing

Weakness:

That is a tough question!!! More bass power??? At the price paid, you should not have ANY problems or weaknesses to think of. Well, maybe JBL could have thrown in a mounting kit along with the N26's. O well, I'm happy!

I paid $240.00CND NOTE: This review is all in consideration of the price of the speaker, not compared to models $1000.00 and up! Because then I could find a lot more problems! I enjoy this model very much. It has plenty of power and looks very good (I personally like the form of the plastic case). Let's start with the highs. Very clear, articulate, and pristine sound. The EOS tweeter "horn" (it provides a horn kind of a purpose) design provides excellent soundstage. Secondly, the mids are very clear and well pronounced. Voices are very easily understood. Nuff said. Now, the bass. Wow!!! You will not believe the bass that comes out of the small 6" drivers. NOTE: The store sales floor does not do any speaker justice, sooo... do not make any desicion based on your "sonic" evaluation there. The bass is very tight and deep. Even playing bass heavy hip-hop tracks, these speakers put out exceptional amounts of bass. These speakers can rock good sized rooms. Don't expect these to shake ANY room though. They are not designed to be main speakers for a large room. Used as surround speakers, the N26's provide very detailed effects and an enveloping surround experience. I would have to say that the N26's are best suited for techno and hip-hop. If you do not have a very large room, then these speakers can be used fronts or rears. I would recommend these speakers to anybody! They are a steal at the price considering what you get!

Strength:

Voice matched with other northridge series Price sound quality highs decent lows for a bookshelf. size just right for my entertainment center.

Weakness:

Not enough low end for a home theater you need a sub woofer.

This is a review for the N26ii. I purchased these from Crutchfield.com, great website great coustomer service. The speaker has a really solid cabinet. The speaker has good hi''s and good low end for a bookshelf (55hz). However I recommend a subwoofer if you are going to use these as part of a home theater set up. I auditioned these and B&W602S2''s but with a baby on the way these are a lot more affordable. I am using these as my front main speakers in a 5.1 sorround sound set up with a 65W Yamaha reciever and they sound great. The speakers also deliver enough sound to fill up my 15''x20'' room with a 16'' tall vaulted ceiling. One other reason I purchased these was the manufacturer states that all the northridge series speakers are voice matched (not sure how important this is but they all sound good). My set up. Reciever: Yamaha 5440 TV: Mitsubishi platnum 55" HDTV DVD: Sony 700np (progressive scan) Speakers Front Main: JBL N26ii Center: JBL N-Center Rear sorround: JBL N24AW Sub-woofer: Yamaha YST305 (dual 8" 200W)

Strength:

As I wrote before, the sound is very smooth with excellent bass and good dynamics.

Weakness:

There are none.

The reason that you see two different prices are because in the last several weeks, I first purchased the N26s for $135 to mate with an Onkyo receiver for a bedroom system. I was so impressed with the smoothness of the sound, the excellent bass, and the dynamics that I became less enthused with my small Mission 760is and my Celestion CS4s that I had with my other two systems. So, I have put away these two speaker systems and replaced both of them with the N26 IIs, which I pay $170 per pair for each. I had never had JBLs in the past (in fact, I remember them from the 70s as being part of the "West Coast" sound (hardly laid back). But the N26 and the N26 IIs make my Mission and Celestion speakers sound too forward! Needless to say, I am impressed with what Dr. Floyd Toole and others at Harman International have done with the JBL speaker line.

Strength:

Price, JBL quality (Yeah, even for Northbridge series), crisp highs, very efficient. Still playing after tremendous rainstorms! 5-Year Warranty!

Weakness:

Need to compensate to bring out mids, bass is lacking somewhat, but is generally better than other available outdoor speakers. Lack of mounting hardware being my biggest complaint!

NOTE: This review is of the N26AW, the off-white outdoor version. I bought these speakers looking for some decent sound outdoors on my deck, and I had considered Bose 251s. I must say I do recommend Harman''s store on EBay, they give great service and they don''t smoke you on shipping like most of the others do (charged me 8 dollars S&H, the speakers made it from California to Georgia, UPS GROUND in only 3 Days!). REVIEW: Naturally, as with most outdoor speakers, you''re going to be lacking in the bass department and these are no exception. However, when comparing these to other outdoor speakers, you will find that the bass on these better than most. The mids are just a little on the weak side, however an equalizer adjustment for these will help bring those out. The highs are very sweet as you would expect on JBL products. The mounting for these speakers leave a lot to be desired as no mounting hardware is included, but these units do have a little folding bar that will allow you to stand these upright as I have done in two corners of my deck. When I first initially got these speakers, they needed to be played to get them settled in. I have done that and believe me, they do come in! They have also been left in the elements (hard rain) a couple of times and have played every time without any noticeable problems. I highly recommend these for outdoor speakers! And for much less than the price of the Bose 251s, I feel I have outdoor speakers that sound as good if not better, and I have enough cash leftover to buy another pair and maybe 5-6 CDs to boot! Highly recommended, great outdoor sound. Now if I could only find an outdoor Subwoofer!!

Strength:

Clarity, soundstage, highs and good bass.

Weakness:

None really.

Tis is for the new N26II series that replaced the N26 series. Good thing is that these have wooden cabinets rather then plastic (or whatever that high impact..). This does produce significantly clear, undistorted bass. The highs are extremely clear. Imaging excellent. I use these as my rear speakers and use N38II as fronts. I have also tries these as my main and they sound great. Can be used as main speakers.

Strength:

Cheap

Weakness:

Tweeters tend to blow easily, even if you don''t feed them with very loud or difficult material.

Good bass, not very detailed mids. I had them for two months before the tweeter of one of the speakers started to distort. Now, two months later, both tweeters are about to blow. And I have used them only with 100 wpc amps, never with the volume knob higher than 1/3 of the way up. Neither have I used the loudness controls, I always use tone bypass.

Strength:

After The "Paradigm Atom" It''s one of the best Budget Monitors Out there in that Price range.

Weakness:

No Block Parties allowed!!!!!

I couldn''t live With my Kenwood Surround set-up any longer, featuring towers of dual 8''s and what appeard to be plastic tweets. After a few listening sessions at the local BB to my ears i really didn''t hear a differance from the JBL north to the studio series other than a little more Bass and power handling for the studio. So, if bass is what your after buy a good sub. Being front ported and can buy mounting brackets sepratly and use them for rears in the future. I bought a pair of the n26''s as the first piece in my speaker upgrade just to hold me over until I could afford the speakers i really wanted (Klipsch RF-3 and matching Center Version II''s). Right out of the Box I noticed that they had alot more energy in the Highs then My kenwood''s did. Really Nice Soundstage and airy feeling. Does the trick were you think that the center is on when it''s not, quite nicely. The Mids and Bass is also very good with this speaker. They handled alot of volume too. But Don''t over do it!!! So, yes the Block Party is Out of the Question. Stick to the Specs 120W with reasonable volume ranges and these should last along time. If one were alittle more pressed for the loot one could build a very nice home theater music system around the Northridge line. Hope this helps you? Happy hunting!!!!

Strength:

Outstanding clarity, with lifelike mids and crystalline highs. Solid bass for woofer & cabinet size. Lots of mounting options.

Weakness:

Perhaps too strident for indoor use. Oversized cabinets (14" high) make them unsuitable for some outdoor applications. Mounting brackets must be purchasing separately. Plastic cabinets could be a little more "dead."

NOTE: This review is of the N26AW, the off-white outdoor version. Although some websites say they are video-shielded, the accompanying manual states that they are not, so beware. A friend of mine installed these on under his eaves and I was amazed by the dynamics and the clarity and purity of the overall sound. Seeing that they were available via eBay auction for $120 plus shipping, I took the plunge. My first impression: earsplitting treble, no bass. But I know speakers need some time to "run in" so I just kept some good bass-heavy music thumping through them. After about an hour (knowing they would continue to improve over time), I sat down and listened critically. My initial impression was one of extreme clarity, with voices exhibiting a real, lifelike, "you are there" quality. The treble remained a bit strident, almost "glassy" or "crystalline." When Lila got home, she termed it "thready, airy." Mids were clear and smooth, while bass was adequate for a speaker of this cabinet and woofer size -- relatively deep, with no boominess at all. The imaging was superb, almost on par with the my KEF Q15s, with good soundstage depth too, perhaps even better than the Q15s. Then it occurred to me that the designers probably wanted to reinforce the high end because that''s primarily what you lose out of doors. Freed from the constraints of room boundaries and reflective surfaces such as walls and ceilings, a soft smooth treble such as the KEF Q15''s would sound muffled if not downright nonexistent. So while I would never use the N26AWs as home speakers, the extreme clarity, pronounced upper-midrange and treble, and solid bass make them excellent performers as outdoor speakers.

highs above 20000 Hz. Rubber surround!!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. If your going to buy these I would buy them at JandR soon because they have no tax and no shipping (ground).

Weakness:

One weakness that doesn''t really bother me is that they only go down to 55 Hz and don''t have heavy bass, but who really cares. If your complaining, buy the JBL PB12 12inch sub with these.

These speakers are everything you would expect from an excellent company like JBL. They have everything from amazing, ear piercing highes, rubber surround, (I think its 1 inch thick) nice looks. Excelent speakers for $140.00. Although I would highly recommend that you buy the S26 which are used by recording studios. I''m getting ready to purchase a pair of S26''s soon.

Strength:

Like earlier, better as surrounds in my opinion. As mains they can do the work, just not nearly as well as some good Floorstanding Models. I use the Tower ND 310''s as my main speakers. 5 way binding posts.

Weakness:

Have worked well with no problems.

There is two ways you can look at this speaker. One as mains on your system... OR as Surrounds like I use them. I purched four of these and bought the brackets to mount them because I run DTS ES and Dolby EX which add two extra rear speakers into the mix! They work excellent with my Denon avr 3801 receiver! Again they are better suited for Surrounds in my opinion.
