Strength:

they were cheap(relativly)

Weakness:

dont sound so good after a while (i suspect the good sound leaks out)

well everyone here warned me that these speakers wasnt too good. i thought they were ok for a while, even tho my wife had to file off all the high notes with e.q. i guess i realy am old.(read deef). anyway we returned them and got different ones after the cat went atavistic and the hamsters started taking turns trying to gnaw each others ears off.we bought some klipsh sb-2 bookcase speakers and they sounded better.(the horn tweeter still hurt my wifes ears, but the hamsters calmed down some). anyway the cat still got meaner and meaner.(had to send him to the big cat re-hab ranch for eventual release back into the wild). any way back to the stereo store for the third time... wound up buying floor standing speakers called definitive technology bp-2006somthin-somthin. they sound even beter than the little klipsh speakers, and dont hurt the hampsters or my wifes ears. they did cost quite a bit more and may not be true musical speakers(they plug into the wall) but they did reveal one thing musicaly to me, did you know that john denver played a martin d-45 on some of his songs and not a do-bro? any way please be careful when choosing speakers because small animals and spouses start getting head aches mayby the speakers arent realy so good as one first thinks. i re rate the bose speakers a little lower than i had at first.

Strength:

strong highs and mid range, clear bass

Weakness:

not for all types of music

I own 2 sets of 301's which I have connected to the A+B front channel switch on my Sony DE-935. I was looking for a cheap pare of floor speakers a couple years ago and was given a test of the 301's by the salesman as an alterative. I immediately fell in love with them. Now I own four which I've paid a total of $500 for thanks to ebay. They were all brand new when I bought them. These are great speakers for any one looking in the $250-500 dollar range. Crisp highs, warm mids, and a clear, tight bass come through no matter what your listening too. What you have to take into consideration, though, is that different types of music are made to be played with different dynamics. I prefer more accoustically based music to hard rock. For that these speakers are flawless. When I do listen to more hard rock I am slightly dissapointed, but not enough to regret my purchase. These are fantastic entry-level high fi speakers and you really should give them a chance. Best performance is found when they are positioned correctly. I'm thinking of adding a powered subwoofer to help the low end through harder music. Definetly don't settle for the $318.00 regular store price. Shop around, you can get them cheaper.
