COMPARED TO ALL THREE OTHERS THE BOSE WERE A JOKE LOUSY HIGHS POOR BASS CHEAP CONSTRUCTION.the jbl had cleaner bass far superior highs the boston totally outsounded the Bose, the celestion about $400.00 a pair new made them sound like a childs toy. my opinion is Bose is for people who pay for advertising not Quality. i grew up in massachusetts were Bose is from thank God Boston Acoustics is there,im not sure what year they were made. dont buy bose theres a lot of better speaker makers outthere.

Strength:

Wider Sound Stage

Weakness:

Weak Highs, Exaggerated Bass response, Cheap Materials

I purchased these speakers used for $75 off my friend because he wanted to buy some better speakers. After listening to these speakers, now I know why. I cannot believe that these speakers go for $319. I mean I paid $75 for these and I thought I was getting a deal, but these speakers should be selling for no more than $100. They do possess a wider sound than most book shelf speakers, but the cheap materials used, weak highs, and exaggerated bass response do not justify the high price.

Strength:

Wider Soundstage, Bose Marketed Brandname, Gimicky Features

Weakness:

Overpriced and Overhyped, low quality construction, Lackluster Highs and sound in general, slightly exaggerated boomy bass

I was shopping around for some speakers to place in my bar and compared around 20 or so bookshelf speakers in the $300-500 range and found the Bose to be the most ridiculously overpriced, overhyped, and cheapest in build quality speakers out there. The highs and general sound had a lackluster quality about them with an exaggerated, boomy bass typical of Bose. Looking at the speaker cones I realized why....cheap paper cones and tweaters with foam surrounds. I have seen toy and boombox speakers that are of much higher quality and use rubber surrounds. Furthermore, the speakers are made in MEXICO, really throwing insult to the $319 price tag. I have nothing against Mexico, but products made there are supposed to be inexpensive. The only good thing I can say about the speaker is that it does have a slightly wider soundstage b/c of the rear facing tweaters. It is ironic that Bose through it's marketing ploys uses "better sound through research" as it's motto when it chooses to use primitive, low quality speaker cones. If these were $100 speakers, as they should be, it would be a completely different story. But anyone considering to spend $319 on some speakers should spend it elsewhere.

Strength:

good for background kind of listening and vocals...

Weakness:

lack of bass and no highs at all...

Actually I bought from a friend who had bought them when he was in NY for university. The currency is about US$278.I tried them in a small room in many ( i mean many ) positions just excluding the wall hanging.I used them with several units such as an late 70's Pioneer receiver SX-750(2x45 RMS),Pioneer A-445 amp (2x80 RMS),Dual Stereo Component ( tuner+turntable+amp 2x15 RMS ),Pioneer A-616 Mark II amp,Marantz PM-48 & PM-4000, Denon PMA-1500R.Both used my Pioneer CD Player.I would say they're OK for vocals ( TV maybe... ) and somekind of background music but hey no concert in my room :)) About the price, they suck!!! They should be around US$ 150...I suggest Tannoy,KEF and Mission they're pretty good for their value...And yes I got the point: no highs no lows must be BOSE...

I'm submitting this review to counter the poor review given by "A disturbed citizen." Either disturbed continued to buy every Bose product even after he decided they were crap or he's rating something that he doesn't really own. I'd advise him to stop posting falsified, biased reviews and to break out that dictionary he talked about and learn how to spell retarded and addict.

Thanks
Daniel

Strength:

My Bose 301's have no trouble handling the high volume that I demande from them. Also I have never been disapointed with the amount of bass that that small of a speaker could produce. Finally, my bose at least can definatlly take a few drops to the floor and keep on pumping.

Weakness:

The 301's need some trial and error with there placement in a room. These speakers sometimes sound better 2 feet to the left or right. Also highth is an problem also, you have to tinker with that also.

I have been very pleased with my bose over the years, and have never had any reason to replace them. Although when I do decide to get something new I'll do some shopping and see what else is out there and compare. As of right now I've found the sweet spot with my bose and am in no rush to replace them. If you don't have alot of floor space to put speakers and need something small that packs a punch Bose 301's are a definate must. I have a dvd with dolby digital and have no need for a subwoofer because the Bose can handle the job fine by themself.

Strength:

They really rock, DooDs!

Weakness:

Not as loud as speakers at AC/DC concert

Won these at a poker game--Frank raised when he shoulda folded. hooked em up to my trusty pioneer receiver and put on the soundtrack to "Deliverance"--boy, can these things rock or what? they pretty much shook my single wide trailer at the fresno arms trailer park to its jackscrews!

They came with some really cool looking stands (look sorta like the base of spock's chair on star trek) but i dont have much room in the trailer, due to it being wet weather and what with the Harley in the front room, so I had my girlfriend make me some macrame hangers and I just hung 'em from the ceiling. It's way cool that I can walk around the room and they sound killer, no matter what! I sometimes hit my head on one if Ive had a few, so i hang a T-shirt on them so i can see them in the dark.

those engineers at Bose must be geniuses or something.

Strength:

Bose is the best, what can I say? Great treble and midrange, tight, clean bass.

Weakness:

Limited placement for optimal performance.

These speakers just plain rock. They have a wide frequency response and sufficient power handling for a decent home theater system. The only flaw is that their speaker design does not make that big of a difference (direct reflecting)if they are not placed in the best position. For all the anti Bose people, I guess Bose is just much too advanced for you to properly grasp.
