I'm submitting this review to counter the poor review given by "A disturbed citizen." Either disturbed continued to buy every Bose product even after he decided they were crap or he's rating something that he doesn't really own. I'd advise him to stop posting falsified, biased reviews and to break out that dictionary he talked about and learn how to spell retarded and addict.

Thanks
Daniel

The Bose 201 IV make great surround speakers. Until my mains came in, I used the Bose, which had a good sound, but didn't have the frequency response required. If you don't listen to demanding music, they sound very clear. But in the surround role, they do a great job. Also, the reflecting sound helps to make the room sound larger (which my small room needs). Your opinion of them will depend mostly upon what you expect from them.

Strength:

Sound good to me

Weakness:

None I can think of for inexpensive bookshelf speakers.

I have had wonderful sound from my Bose 201 series 3. I purchased them second hand with a Yamaha RX-V480 receiver and Yamaha CDX-480 compact disc player. The system sounded great to me. Wanting extra bass I eventually bought a Yamaha YST-SW100 sub-woofer and now I'm stoked. I also purchased a second hand Luxman K-105 tape deck. The concert hall sound is superb even at low volume. Piano music is the supreme test (in my opinion), to test replicated sounds and my system is more than adequate. I guess there's no pleasing some people.
