Strength:
Excellent details.
Weakness:
For the price none. Lack of bass. I've been looking for better speakers 2 years ago, when I first encounter 602s2 speakers. At that moment I didn't prefer the monitors, so I bought Heco Odeon600 floorstanders. I was always thinking that was a mistake, when I bought my first "better" speakers cable. Wired with MIT Terminator Hecos sounded a lot better. Changing the interconnects made them even better. But 6 months ago, I had chance to listen to new 603S3. B&Ws highs and midrange was more detailed and open, while the bass wasn't as deep as with Hecos, but faster and less boomier. Heco have at least twice as large cabinet as 603. It was because of highs I again went to store and listen to 602 again. I never regret buying 602s3, because they sound better as Odeon600 to me. Only bass isn't as deep as before, what I expected; but what it delivers is more accurate. Not bad in term of bass delivery, but not comparable with "larger" floorstanders (I'm thinking of buying a sub). Didn't bi-wired them yet, since MIT Terminator cable have a "phase-correction network". NONE WOW!!! These are great speakers. The 602''''s have a great full sound. They sound much bigger than a bookshelf speaker. The have just the right amount of bass but sound even better with a good powered sub. i love the highs that these speakers produce. i am a life long fan of B&W now. the 602''''s are very high quality speakers and i recommend them without reservation to anyone that is serious about great sound. Strength:
Great sound, bi wireable, well furnished.
Weakness:
Lack of Bass. I have these DM 602 S3 speakers for several weeks. They are sound great: good clarity, good imaging, and soft response. I coupled these speakers with my Onkyo Receiver TX-797 to be used as both music and video. I am agree that positioning these speakers are very important as getting the correct height to produce better sound. Although I place them close with the wall, I cannot hear any boomy bass. I think these speakers lacked of bass but the mid and high are the best I have ever heard. However, considering the size of the speakers, what can you expect much from this bookself size? Strength:
great sound, looks the biz, bi-wireable
Weakness:
need carefull positioning if that is a minus I have had these 602 S3 speakers now for a couple of months and am pleased with the sound I get from them, placement can make a great deal of difference, they become boomy against a rear wall but in my large room - too far from a wall and the bass becomes lost. I am using these as the front spreaker of a home theater setup with an LCR3 centre - the movie sound is great with the subwoofer on but without the bass is lacking. When I moved them up to the rear wall it made a huge difference to the bass output. Next I need to experiment with deadening the room''s acoustics with carpet or rugs as the tiles are very reflective and give a sharper sound than I like. Positioning is very important here as is getting the correct height. For my room (300sqft) I want to replace them with the 603 or 604s depending on funds and use the 602s as surrounds, the larger floorstanders will give that extra room filling bass sound that the 602 cannot, unless I turn on the sub. I also own a set of Bose 301 S4 - these are blown away by the B&Ws for about 15% more cash Similar Products Used: Bose 301 Series 4 Bang and Oulafsson ? B&W DM201 |

Strength:
Excellent depth, perspective and details
Weakness:
For the price none. I haven''t bought these speakers yet, but I tested them for about 6 hours and decided to buy them when my cashflow improves. This review will be my pre-purchase thoughts and when I have owned them for about 2-3 months, I will write another. I was looking for a <500$ set of speakers and had until recently decided on the Dynaudio 42 I saw on a HiFi expo in Copenhagen. But a salesperson in Hifi-klubben convinced me to try these instead, and even though they''re marginally cheaper, they sound better. I brought some of my own CD''s and tried them out, and even though I played radically different music styles on them, they just continued sounding great. These are the CD''s I have tested them with: Joe Satriani "Surfing with the Alien" Steve Vai "Ultra Zone" Steve Vai "Flex-able Leftovers" Bruce Dickinson "The Chemical Wedding" Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" Van Halen "1984" Other than these I heard some Jeff Buckley, Guns ''n'' Roses and various Jazz and Blues songs The first thing I noticed was the surprisingly firm and tight bass. I had to check three times that I was only listening to the 602''s and not the floor-speakers standing next to them. I couldn''t get them to lose their focus, even at neighbour-hostile volumes. The next thing was the great depth and perspective they had. This is especially apparant when listening to Satriani and Vai, as they both bring the stereo perspective to full use, but also when listening to more quiet songs like Dire Straits or Jeff Buckley as they (the speakers) give you the impression of really being there. The detail and highs are excellent, and never got harsh, not even when they were subjected to the Steve Vai track "Massacre" as this song has bucketloads of artificial harmonics and overtones. The looks and finish of the 602''s are very elegant with the grille on(IMHO), and without the kevlar midrange reminds you of the larger B&W Nautilus speakers. So to sum things up: If you are looking for a pair of <500$ speakers, these are the best I have heard. You won''t believe the price when they start playing. I had a hard time even leaving the shop afterwards, they encourage you to keep on playing. Similar Products Used: Dynaudio 42 (also an excellent speaker, try them both) |

can''t think of any [price in euro] i own this speaker for a little bit more than 4 month now and i really love them. they need a quite long time to break in but then... woooow! don''t get me wrong they sound good if there are new too, but yes, give them some time and you will be surprised! i listen to many kinds of music from classic over jazz and rock to techno. they don''t can produce really deep bass (lower than 40hz) but remember their size! and you will miss this low bass just while listening to techno music or watching dvds. but you have to be carefull where you position them. close to side and rear walls isn''t their favourite place. Weakness:
Size? I need to cut my speaker stands down 5 inches because of the height difference between the 602 and 601. Not I problem with me though. The sound outfar weights the size. This new line of BW''s 600 series is outstanding. Right out of the box they sound great. The highs, mids, and lows are tremendeous. The 602 S3''s give a depth that the 601''s never could give. Playing music in stereo, these speakers give a great soundstage that is so enjoyable to listen to. I strongly recommend these great speakers Similar Products Used: BW 302, 601 |
