Doesn't really play Mp3s. To convert Mp3s to Atrac3 takes too much time and space. Although I found this unit as a returned open box with the killer price of $89.00, I had to return it immediately. Having already a large collection of Mp3s, this unit was worthless to me due to the required file format of ATRAC3. The player is advertised to play Mp3s, but it doesn't. It plays ATRAC3s. If you want to play Mp3s on it, it must be first converted into their ATRAC3 format and stored on your computer. So you end up with two copies of the same song in different formats taking up space on your hard disk. And had the conversion taken less time to encode, I may have struggled with the product, but an entire album took nearly 30mins to encode on my Sony Vaio Notebook. So needless to say this product is pointless to people already using mp3s, and maybe even to newbies with no library of them. The conversion factor is a bit too much to ask of the consumer given the global adoption of the MP3 format. I understand Sony's position in protecting their music property, but it's a little bit Beta-esque. Similar Products Used: Rio500 |
