Strength:

This discman is surprisingly durable. I have dropped it a number of times, and it keeps on ticking. I have to say its much more reliable than any other mobile entertainment I've had before.

Weakness:

The battery case has a tendency to open up in my pocket, but this is pretty much because of lack of plastic tension. Also, it may need repairs because of occasional laser difficulties; the CD skips when the discman is perfectly still.

Tough peice of plastic, but kind of annoying...

Strength:

I actually have the D-EJ616CK, which is identical to the 611, but also comes with a car kit. This was one of the most satisfying buys I've ever made. It is my constant companion at school, on the road(using the car kit), and when I'm doing the boyfriend thing at the mall. This thing looks good! To me, it's one of the best looking on the market. My girlfriend complains that I lust after my discman more than for her.

Weakness:

Cover is slightly wobbly, and is made of plastic. If the cover was metal, this would be almost a perfect product.

This is a wonderful product, but I would recommend buying the D-F61 or D-F65, as they are almost identical, but also feature AM/FM tuners.

Strength:

(I have the D-EJ610, just the UK version) The sound, the weight, and totally jog proof

Weakness:

The headphone's found their way to the bin....very quickly. Add £20 to the total price of this discman, because you will need new headphones.

This is great of the money, you really cannot beat the weight and size. It is defaintly one of the best looking discmans out, and is impossible to jog. This thing is even hard to make skip with the jog proof turned off. I never have jog proof turned on (to save on batteries) and it has never skipped on me once. It still has anti-shock with jog protection turned on. Also, still on the plus side, it has a line out, dynamic bass, hold option, LCD screen and digital volume control (including AVSL). The batteries are supposed to last 32hours, but actually last about 20 hours with g-protection off and 10 with g-protection on.

The negative side to this player is the sh*t headphones that come with it. They saw away at your ears and the bass is horrible. The first thing you should to is give away the headphones and buy some new ones. When i listen to the beginning of dead bodies everywhere by Korn, the bass just crackles. I would reckomend buying some in-ear sony digital headphones for around £15, about $30 i think. The sound difference is amazing.

Overall, this is a very worthwhile purchace, and i would highly recommend to purchasing of it. For the money you get good sound, good weight, and an unskipable discman. Even if you effectivly get no headphones! Happy listening :)

Strength:

Uhm, it's kinda small, in a crappy sort of way. The sound isn't too bad, but........it is.

Weakness:

Where to begin...crappy build, crappy plastic, bad connections in headphone and lineout ports, loose buttons, PLASTIC gears (jaw on the floor).

Over the past 11 years, I have watched the quality of Sony's products steadily descend. With the new line of Discmen this year, the "Crappiness" hits a rock bottom. The price was very cheap for a "Coming of age Discman," but the inexpensive pricetag is matched only by a cheaper made model. To put it another way, this discman sucks. I have never been ashamed of a sony discman yet. But this is an embarrassment to the company. The sound on the unit is terrible. It is beyond me why they every stopped using digital filters and oversampling. Loose buttons, lid, GEARS!!!, and more add the frustration. Though this Discman doesn't audibly skip, it is aparent that every shake to the system is a cut off of its life, which probably isn't very long. One good drop and this one's in the dumpster. Well, the D-303 is the best one that I've had yet, I guess I'll just stick with that one.

Strength:

(I have the D-EJ615, same as 611 but with remote, and batteries) 1bit DAC, Cool Design, Bass Boost, 32HR+ of playback on alkalines, remote, sound quality, headphones. Rechargeable Batteries. G-Protection = Totally Skip Free

Weakness:

Flimsy, not that well built... Headphone/Remote plug... Buld Quality

I cant believe i got this great player for FREE, after my parents redeemed their credit card points.
Okay where do I begin, the sound quality of the player is spectacular. The 1 bit Digital Audio Converter does its job. The 2 bass enhancement settings are great, although they drain more battery, it sounds great. Press once for regular bass boost, and press twice for a "Groove" setting. It looks great too, and very energy efficient. Im an avid listener i bet i have used the same alkaline batteries for MORE than 32 hrs. I really like the remote that came with my D-EJ615. The headphones sound great, but after about half a year, my left-earbud is crackling at high bass frequencies. Mine came with SONY rechargeable batters, that last only 5-9hrs, but they're very handy if oyu run out of power in your alkalines, these are great backups, and it comes with a plastic case. What is TOTALLY amazing, is the new G-PROTECTION, it is TOTALLY SKIP FREE, and the manual says the batteries last longer WITH g-protection, not shorter, so thats a HUGE plus. Ive literally used this while mountain biking and hiking... Totally skip free, way better than the 40-second ESP-method of skip protection. It prevents skips for an unlimited amount of time.

Okay some cons... The build quality is not great.. The stylish silver cover has some 'wiggle room' when closed, and feels like it is very easily broken off the base. The oval LCD screen with the clear plastic is not 'secure'. I keep the Discman in my pocket alot, and lint and some whatnot gets inbetween the Clear plastic and the LCD screen, I have NO IDEA how it can get in there. It is terribly annoying. The buttons at the side are very loose, not great quality, and the 'hold' slider button feels like it could pop right out at any time, same with the OPEN slider. The plug for the headphone/remote is not secure, when plugged in, the plug can wiggle, and cause skips in the audio. The remote's plug is very bad, it has some wiggle room when plugged in and if pulled hard, some of the wires may snap from the jack, and over time, you will ahve less and less audio, until one day it quits. The headphones' plug/cable is not great, its tiny, small, and flimsy, one short tug at it can risk the whole cable coming out of the head. I wish they had a headphone that has a hard plastic covering right where the cables go into the jack, and where the cables go into the headphones....

All in all, great sound quality, great price, but shoddy build.

Strength:

High level of skip protection. Rather small, fairly durable and Digital volume control.

Weakness:

Not backlit, kind of lacking in default bass.

I purchased this as a replacement for my Panasonic CD player since I'm usually active while using it. Has never skipped while I was running. The earbuds that come with the Canadian version of this don't sound that great and they're a little too big compared to the cheap Sony ones that you can buy. Overall though, its a good CD player for the money and can compete with the more expensive CD players.
