Strength:

Fantastic durability.

Weakness:

nada

This CD player is invincible! Iv'e had it since Christmas of 1999. It has been dropped onto tile floor from as high as seven feet on numerous occasions. It's fallen from tables, shelves, pockets, onto concrete and tile. The door is broken from abuse and will come right out when you open it, if your'e not careful, but the player works like new. Tonight, 05.19.06, It fell from atop a bookshelf, and I was sure it was done for. It would not turn on. Turns out the "door: open/closed" sensor/button was not being depressed besause the bottom and top halves of the chassis (body, not door) were slightly seperated. I was elated to find that this trusty device has pulled through tribulation once more, and from this event I have deemed the device worthy of this review.

I think it's a great cd player. Considering the price, the quality is superb. I haven't really been disturbed by skips or anything. It runs smoothly.

Strength:

+ Good Audio Output + Good Bass from volume 1 - 7 + Replay and other options menu + Good for price

Weakness:

- Bass isn''t recognisable from volume 8+ - Very Sensitive - Weaker Lens than other normal CD players

This model lasted me for more than a year and finally broke today on the 6th May 2002. It does output some good audio but I''ve owned better players for its price. You might find it annoying while you''re jogging or dancing in front of your mirror because the slightest impact could stop the whole player. The CD cover is easily breakable and you should be careful with the way you open it. The bass is not so powerful when the volume reaches 8+ but outputs wicked bass from volume 1 - 7. I would only recomend this Portable CD Player to casual listeners only.

Strength:

Cheap, easy to control while holding in hand, no sound irregularites.

Weakness:

Skips, battery life, megabass.

Note: I don't know the actual model year, I think it's 1998, not sure.
Just wanted the cheapest thing I could find, but I figured I should go for Sony because I heard they were the best. So I went around trying to find just the cheapest Sony I could find, and found this.
Sounds good overall, I don't know for certain. Don't have much experience with CD players. I'm an MP3 kind of guy, so I'm used to my comp being my music player. I think the comp is better with some highs and lows, but I don't have any static, or hissing, or anything like that, so I'm satisfied with sound.
The one sound problem I have is the megabass makes everything way too bass heavy, muddy I think the right term would be. And skip protection I find is pretty useless. I find that it skips in the same situations, wether protection's on or off, so I don't have it on at all, hoping to get more life out of the batteries. The problem I have with battery life is the 15 hour battery life is only with skip off and probably on 0 volume, and even then I haven't managed to get more than 10 hours out of it, which I'm finding at 2+ hours a day, 5 days a week, isn't cutting it.
Overall? Don't bother. Save up and get a Sony that has at least 30 hours of battery life according to the package and G-Protection, because otherwise you're gonna get skips and have to replace the batteries probably at least once a week, or at least a Panasonic or something that has been reviewed well here.
