Strength:

Can read cd-r/cd-rw for mp3''s. Good LCD screen for searching songs. Multiple DSP modes and random/repeat modes. Can recharge batteries in the unit.

Weakness:

Antiskip doesn''t work well. Supposed to be 45 sec on cd''s and 2 min on MP3s. Not even close, if it works at all. On regular cds, it cuts off the last 1-3 seconds of the song. On all music formats and all types of cd''s(prerecorded/cd-r/cd-rw), it will lock up. Sometimes just advancing to the next song works, and other times you have to disconnect ALL power source to reset it. The volume isn''t very loud compared to other portable cd/mp3 players using the same headset. Battery life is very limited. Will drain a good set of rechargables in 45min, 2-3 hours on new batteries.

Let''s say at the time I bought this, it was worth the money. As time goes on, I believe this unit is the worse on the market. I bought this unit back in Sept 2001, right before going to the desert, an impulse buy, for $119. It did last all the beatings, sandstorms and 100+ degree weather over there, but the problems started well before it got there. When I got back from there in March, I saw the EXACT SAME unit in WALMART for around $74, which I still feel too much.

Tested many other models since I have been back, but stuck with this one for now.

Strength:

Plays all disc formats, sturdy lid and sweet DSP modes.

Weakness:

The LCD display could have been backlit for low light conditions. Can''''t win ''''em all.

This unit really is worth more than the price says. It can play any cd you put in with no problems at all. The lid is actually more sturdy than you would guess by glancing at it and DSP really gives life to whatever is played. What I really like about it is the buttons, they don''''t "snap" very loud when you press them. The silver is too shiny sometimes though but the labels are above. The 8 layer file system for playing mp3s really is a help when you have 170 tracks on a disc. The play list option is useful if you wish to compile a list of top 10 tracks/mp3s. The unit also come packaged with Musicmatch Jukebox, which is an easy program for a basic version.
