Strength:

1 year update, still runs strong

Weakness:

sometimes have had to restart the player, but only occassionally

Read my earlier review from 9/99. This CD player still runs strong after over a year of use and abuse. The only problem that has cropped up has been where the CD will spin extremely fast, and eventually can't play the CD while the anti-skip is on. It doesn't happen much, but it's annoying when it does. The only other problem the player has is that pushing one button sometimes triggers another, but I guess that's part of the top control design. I think I may have mentioned that in my previous review. I replaced the original headphones with Koss SportaPros. I recommend anyone who buys a portable CD player to upgrade the headphones, the performance difference is amazing. Anywho, RCA has made a terrific CD player and it seems not many know about it. If you're looking for a new portable CD player without a FM tuner, this is the one to get!

The RCA RP-2365 wasn't my first choice when looking for a new cd player to replace my old and quirky Koss. After visiting the local Circuit City and comparing it to a Panasonic SLS-361C I went with the RCA, mostly because of the much better headphones, plus it was on sale for $69.99. I wasn't sure about the new anti-skip technology, but after taking it on a 400 mile road trip, I was very, very impressed, it didn't skip once and hasn't ever! Also, the RCA doesn't eat up batteries as fast because it uses 4.5V instead of my older model's 6.0V (both use 2 AA batteries). Everything that came with the player works great and I couldn't be happier. The RCA isn't the top of the line, but it comes with features that most people will use and for a very reasonable price. I give it five stars.

Strength:

Anti skip circuitry works very well. When the buffer is loaded you can't make it skip.

Weakness:

Cheaply made. The lid can be easily broken off, the keypad is poor quality. Pushing one button activates another. Sound quality is mediocre but headphones are very poor quality. No line output. Disc automatically starts at the point you last shut it off.

Sometimes touching the lid or pushing a button during play shuts the unit down or causes it to restart. Sometimes the display read "open" when the unit is closed. The unit wakes up in Bass Boost mode which can be very annoying and it automatically starts the disc at the point where you shut it off which is very annoying. When used with amplified speakers it makes a loud "Pop" on power up and power down. It also has some trouble reading some CD-R's.

I know the unit is cheap but it seems they really sought the cheapest possible way to make this player not expecting it to last very long. This is the worst compact CD player I've used. It's strong point is that the anti skip system is excellent. What a waste to put it on such an otherwise low quality machine.

There are better quality players available for a similar price.

Strength:

slim, had great sound. the earphones worked well... but read below.

Weakness:

poor construction. break easily. won't last more than one year. in one word : BULLSH**

The player was absolutely great when i bought it, it didnt skip, and the sound was incredible. But after 4 months, trouble began. First with the cheap construction, i dropped it on a soft carpet, and the lid broke. Now, even when its closed it says open, so i had to repair something. after about 6 months, the earphones stopped working, and after 1 year, the anti skip function was actually skipping itself so i had to disable it to enjoy my music. I am very disapointed with the product and its the last time i bought an electronic product made in china. I plan on buying a panasonic shockwave, it looks durable.
