Strength:

It has been durable for me and that says alot. Mine is so used now that the paint and plastic is worn off in spots but it still works.

Weakness:

Anti-skip technology not up to current standards.

I have been using this unit for around 3 years now in my car. When lying on the seat it does skip but the roads here in South Korea are a bit rough. I guess I took this unit for granted as it has finally started to skip more and more easily. I puchased a Sony Car Discman to replace it but could not believe the difference in audio quality between the two. There was so much music missing from the Sony's output that I took it back to the store within hours. Wish I could find something similar with better anti-shock and a heavy duty case.

Strength:

four batteries (2 for rechargable and 2 for substitute batt) variable anti skip, etc....

Weakness:

the bass boost stay on when every u turn it on

i think that this cd player is awesome with variable anti skip systems with 2 rechargable betteries. (there's 4 battery spaces but 2 of them is for the rechargable batt and 2 substitutes) the anti skip works. there was no time that it skipped since i bought it. the only bad thing about this is that the bass boost is on when ever you turn it on. but overall, i'll give it a 5 out of 5 stars

Strength:

Good looks and sound, has a line out jack to connect to your stereo etc., Variable anti-skip

Weakness:

Heavy compared to some of the newer CD portables available, eats batteries, the way the bass boost functions, anit-skip isn't very good, slight noise problem with headphone jack, build quality

First, the good points. The look is very interesting, very tough and futuristic almost. I can't notice anything wrong with the sound (without bass boost), so no problems there. Dunno what the price is for this since it was a gift, but it has a seperate line out jack which is nice. Another nice feature about this portable is the variable anti-skip. You can select between 12 seconds and 40 seconds, with the lower the amount of prestored music being the better sounding since less compression used in the buffer, so the sound is better (mainly less high frequency degradation).

Now the bad stuff. First off, this thing has some heft to it, even without the batteries. Compared to my newer Panasonic, it is heavy, not to mention being bigger than it. You can use either 2 or 4 batteries, but no matter how many I use, it still eats then up rather quickly, even with a set of Duracell Ultra's. Bass boost on this model isn't particularly impressive. The boost seems to affect bass and some lower midrange, making voices chesty sounding. Also, the player ALWAYS starts a disc with the bass boost engaged after you shut it off no matter what setting it was on before. The player's ability to play at any angle is also meager, though I doubt anyone would have their cd player upside down (which it does miserably at). The anti-skip also isn't that good. When a skip occurs, you will hear it later on when it reaches the part in the buffer that it was reading when the skip occured. Also, it can't even handle moderate walking pace. In quiet places, I noticed that the headphone jack is a bit noisey, especially with the AC adaptor in use. And then there is the question of how well it's built. It doesn't seem to be designed well . If you open it and check where the buttons are on the lid, you'll notice that they seemed to have been trimmed a lot to fit.

Overall, I think it's a good player if you intend on keeping it home or somewhere where it will not be jarred a lot. The bass boost problem doesn't apply to the line out since it doesn't affect it, so hookup to a stereo will be fine since it's line out is actually quite clean sounding. Look for something newer if you intend on jogging, or even walking with it.

Strength:

Good buffer. Go offroading with the jeep and it doesn't skip at all.

Weakness:

It behaves like a computer cd-rom using a windows driver...meaning, it skips the first second of every track, it's a bit annoying having the first second (the zero second) cut off when switching tracks.

If you don't have a cd-player in your car/truck/suv, this is an excellent substitute. In my experience, it hasn't skipped once (except for the time I found a lint particle on the disc).

The zero second/first second cut off is rather annoying. That never happened with the discman, or any other cd-players I've come across.

The sound quality is excellent if you find a descent pair of headphones(I'm using koss right now), the standard pair aren't up to snuff if you want a rich sound with plenty of bass.

Despite the one glaring flaw its still a good player.
