Strength:

Bomb proof quality

Weakness:

A bit light, hence vibration when deep bass is played

I have had my JVC RC-610 since I was about 13. During those years, it has been thrown, kicked, dropped, had every kind of drink poured over it ,and left un-used for months at a time. I am now 30 years old and I'm using it out the garden during BBQ's etc. About a year ago I used the tape player, and after a bit of a clean, it still worked. The remote control still works perfectly, even the motorized volume still works. This stereo has even outlasted my Technics system which cost 15 times the price. I admit that when you turn the hyper bass on and turn it up full it vibrates a bit, but at the end of the day its a portable stereo, not a stack of Marshall amps. I would rate this stereo 5 out of 5.

I've had this stereo for about 7 years now and I have not been very happy with it. Within I believe 3 years, the recording tape deck went bad. Cleaning doesn't help. I never misused it, and I treat my stereo great. The bass on this stereo also sucks. With the "hyper-bass" function, most bass gets totally distorted even at a low level. And at its 6th year, the CD player started going haywire. It has a hard time playing any CD, not because the CD had any scratches. It can barely even play my brand new CDs. The CD player will just constantly skip and stop for no reason. I've tried a CD lens cleaner about 100 times and it does no good.
All in all, this experience assures that I will never by another JVC product as long as I live. Since this model is like 7 years old, they may have gotten better, but if you run into this particular model, don't get it!
