Strength:

Extremely musical, noise free background, smooth and balanced sound top to bottom, very real presentation

Weakness:

None

The fanfare uses a high quality varactor tuning and sensitive mosfet rf amplifiers. With both lo and high outputs, balaced outputs, with direct out from the multiplex filters to amplifier input stages, bypassing the need of capacitors. More detailed sound staging, balanced sound, deeper bass, transparency and most of all noise free tuning, very precise 50db quieting with musical presentation. Very neatly built, high component quality, with three year warranty. Watch out MD, Fanfare is kicking out some serious broadcast quality FM and soon stereo AM. Remote control can be added anytime for nominal cost.

This is a followup but it seems the prev. reviewer has said
it all. Anyway, finnally got the roof antenna installed
(waited till the weather dried the roof) and WOW !!!!!
This has got to be the BEST way to listen to music ! No
way anyone can have the amount of CD's and even vinyl
records that is available on FM. MagnaDynalab units d/n
have remote except for additional $ 1,000. Rediculouse.
Get this tuner and have it all AND save money ! Email me
for a dynamite deal with Fanfare. Thanks to all who have
emailed already. The station count is over 30 on stereo and
over 60 on mono. This is pointed North. Next week we start
the count West and South. Its hard picking ONLY 8 stations
on the pre-set. But what the hell-tuning is easy and fast.
Till next time Free Music Lovers !

Strength:

Very enjoyable to listen to; presets; remote control; solid

I hadn't used a tuner in years, I bought an old Sansui TU-717 to get me feet wet. I enjoyed it enough to research tuners, they get quite pricey! With my research, I liked what I read about the Fanfare. I am very happy with the purchase, it is easily my most used source. It is very musical, I do not find it fatiguing to listen to as I have in the past when listening to the radio. If you are considering adding FM to your system, I think you will find that you will you use it much more than you think. The only drawback to FM is the fact that your reception can only be as good as the signal. On that note, I find that the Fanfare does a great job at pulling in stations as well as locking into one without having a nearby station bleed through. I find that scan does jump a lot of stations though that I feel it should find, that I find manually and have a strong signal.

I use the Fanfare FM-2G antenna also.

Mark Levinson 383 Int. amp
Meridian 508.24 CD
Nak. CR-7A Cassette
TDL Studio Monitor "M" Speakers
Cables: JPS, MIT, Cardas

Strength:

Digital Tuning. Decent sound quality. Low noise.

Weakness:

Closed in on the high-end

No one wants to believe this, but go find an old
NAD analog tuner and LISTEN!

Yes the Fanfare is nice sounding and quieter than
the Maganum Etude. The push buttons are great and
the tuner does not drift.

Note that as good as this tuner is a rejecting noise,
FM is still a noisy method of transport. You will
still hear transmission noise if you are in an
urban area. (tested with outdoor antenna, good
signal strength)

But, if you are willing to give up a little of
the quieting (a little noisier signal) and you
have decent signal strength, you can get better
dynamics and openness.

Everything

Weakness:

Still trying to find one

The prev.reviewer needs a side by side comparison with
quality equipt all around-especially the speakers.Mine are
Magnapan 1.6qr modified (=3.6r's) Preamp:Morrison's ELAD,
Amp:Adcom GFA555. You will hear anything and Everything !
Roof antenna with best wires and same for interconnects and
AP+ spkr wire.Check out WBGO on the web for the best jazz
anywhere. Also WQXR and WNCN.Dynamics ? You can FEEL the
vibrations. "Give up a little quieting"? Is that like being a little pregnant ? The only tuner that bests this one
costs 300% MORE ! And you will get tired of the tube
'sweet' sound after a while, not to mention the tube decay
and pain in the butt hassle of tubes.I spend 4+ hrs dailey
listening while I work.Fanfare is far and away the best
value for the best sound.Period.Don't confuse a weak link
in the chain for the tuner. This gets 6 Stars
