Strength:

Durability, sound quality, excellent features

Weakness:

Motors need to be replaced on occasion

This tape deck has been good for me, but it definitely has its flaws. I purchased it five years ago, and the motor on the right deck has been fixed twice!!! After a couple years of constant use, the motors tend to slow down and must be replaced. The ES has a five-year warranty, though, so it's not too much of a problem.

Strength:

This is a great dual tape deck. The sound quality is excellent both in playback and recording. I recommend this tape deck.

Weakness:

The controls are a bit confusing, and there are so many recording options that trying to make the best copy possible is a mental challenge.

If you are going to buy a dual deck, rather than two single decks, this is a great choice. Sony is known for high-quality tape decks (they're no Nakamichi of course, but they're good), and this deck is the low-end model of Sony's high-end line.

I have owned both Technics and Onkyo tape decks in the past.

Strength:

durable, dual deck, many features

Weakness:

mechanism is noisy when it reverses direction

This thing has been a workhorse for about four years now. We've had no problems despite tons of use playing tapes; it has pretty good audio quality.
