The JE520 MD recorder is also great for monitoring from digital sources. Sounds superb and has great equalization
from the analogue outputs.

I bought a Sony MD-JE520 and I am using it to transfer my collection of LPs and vynil singles. In fact, I started that job early this year when I bought a MD-JE510 and recorded over 80 MDs. In my opinion, the JE520 really sounds better than my previous JE510. With the Sony JE510, under criterious audition (with Sennheiser headphone), I could detect a minor difference (in treble content) when I recorded from my CDs, but never from my vynil records. With the MD-JE520 there is no (audible) difference between the CD and the recorded MD. It seems that Sony did their homework again, developing the new ATRAC 4.5 which really works! I am very pleased with my JE520. Before to buy it, I was seriously thinking to buy a Philips CD recorder. But considering the current prices of the midia (blank MDs = US$2.89 at htpp:\Minidisco.com and audio CD-R costing US$6.00 - 8.00)I will continue dubbing my vynil collection on MDs.

I use the Sony MDS-JE520 in my recording studio and it works great for reference dubb. My next move is to get Sony's MDS-JE630.

This is an excellent Atrac 4.5 Minidisc recorder. It cost £200 (roughly £180 stg, $280 US). I use it to make copies of CDs for an MZ35 portable, as a combination for portable audio I don't think this can be beaten.
The digital recordings seem a little louder than ones made with a Sharp MD-701,(Sharp must have skimped on something in their portable Atrac 5).

I cant compare it sonicaly to the 510, but the controls seem better laid out.
For convenience and sound quality, it beats any tape deck I have ever used, regardless of price. I also love the durability of the discs; I had two discs go through the washing machine, after I dried them the only problem was that the labels had pilled off.

Strength:

Great sounds... good built in eq for recording.

This md player is gorgeous. It sounds seperb and have had no problems what so ever. Easy menus to edit md's and not also has 2 optical imputes and one analog. Analog sounds just as good. I though I could record right off the dvd but I guess there are too many different chanels.. But since I could still record in a stereo format off dvd's I love using some of the Movie Intros to make intros on my MD mixes. My favorite intro is the big THX intro. Give it a try and have Fun.. oh yeah and go bye this baby.

I really like this MD-player. The F.FWD./Rewind function is reasonable, and the menu is easy to use and not very hard to understand. There's one thing I miss, though. That is the ability to put in (and save) a fading on earlier recordings. But as far as I know, no other MiniDisc players have this function. Therefore I'm very pleased with this one, and I have nothing to complain about.
