This is a very decent deck with a clear, lively, and dynamic sound. However all 3 previous models namely SD-72, SD-62, and SD-60 do sound a lot better than the SD-63. All three were more expensive of course, and it seems that Marantz abandoned the deck game after them. In particular, the SD-72 and the SD-62 have a very rich and warm sound with a deep and tight bass and very nicely projected vocals, and are the best of all Marantz decks in my opinion soundwise. Actually the SD-72 records better in Metal Dolby C than both my DR-1 and DR-8 Nakamichis.

Strength:

Nice display Good response using typeIV tapes.

Weakness:

MPX filter

It's a good machine. Since it's a three heads cassette deck, recording is easily monitorable.
