Strength:

Tightned bass

Weakness:

Dark picture, veiled trebble

I hooked up my TV and cd player for my test. I found that it made my TV's colors darker. My TV is a Sony that is about 6 years old and features a very dark screen. I couldn't compensate enough for the blackness. Other colors just didn't look right anymore. I was hoping that it would at least improve my reception since I am the next to last house on a dead end street, it didn't.

When it came to the sound I didn't quite like it that much either. I hooked up my Naim CD5 (with a flatcap) to the HTS 2500 and the sound became softer. This is with my amp still hooked to the wall socket. The highs became less noticeable and the overall presentation became a little sterile. It did make the bass slightly tighter.

I would like to be able to say that the power section for the amps did a good job but I can't. When I plugged in my amp and turned the power circuit on the high power circuit in the HTS2500 shorted out.

I am going to review this unit on just its CD audio output.

Strength:

improved my cable signal, clearer image, more detail, sweeter sound

Weakness:

panel lights too bright

I recently purchased the HTA 2500 because of all the positive reviews and I want to protect my investments. I used to have a Power Wedge and it made some improvements but not significant. When I got the HTA 2500 I was expecting the same. When I hooked it up to my equipments I basically got the same improvements that I got from my Power Wedge. But the story does not end here......I was going over the comments of the other buyers but I have not seen this particular comment that I am about to give. Tell me if my eyesight is bad or my hearing is going crazy.......coz one thing I noticed in this unit is that as it stayed hooked on my equipment ( I have it now for about a week ) it actually improved over time!!! I don't know why but it did. Pictures on my TV looked much better, it is more detailed than before. Picture (DVD) is sharper and cleaner. With regards to the audio portion same thing...music is a lot sweeter, bass tighter. I don't know why this happened but it did. If somebody knows why please email me. Overall, I am very impressed with the product and I give it thumbs up all the way!!!!!!!

Strength:

build, color coded for no confusion of hookups

Weakness:

none

This piece of brilliance has completed and complimented my entire system. The audio became more transparent. The video stabilized. I would highly suggest this component for those with hidef rear projection sets. The picture via DSS and DVD had a much better contrast than previous and the DSS signal became more solid as opposed to crawl dots and moire patterns are concerned. Excellent. Rocks. Five Stars.

Strength:

surge protector, sturdy casing, detailed component hook up.

Weakness:

it seems that when I plug my amplifier into the hts 2500, the highs get muffled

My system consists of the following:
sony cdp-xa20es cd player
parasound stereo amp 1500a
adcom gfp 710 preamp
klh speakers (definitely the weak point)
original monster speaker cable
monster interlink 400 (cd to preamp)
monster interlink 800 (amp to preamp)

I am curious to see if my speakers are at fault for the muffled highs when I connect my amp to the hts 2500. I have only had this component for 1 day, however a good plus is that the bass is noticably boosted but the highs are also diminished. As of now, I have connected my preamp and cd player to the hts 2500 and plugged the amp into the wall, which results in clearer highs. On the side note will most definitely purchase a pair of B&W CDM 7SE.

Strength:

video performance, does not hurt (my) sound

Weakness:

none so far

I was looking for a surge protector that would not hurt my system performance, and improve it if possible. I started with the top of the line hts 5000. It hurt my b&k avr 202 receiver performance terribly. The stereo image was degraded and many subtleties were lost. But, it really helped my video performance. Detail was improved, and contrast went up several notches.

So, I switched to the hts 2500 after a great review of the 2000 by the Absolute Sound (only difference is appearance). It improved video like the hts 5000, but best of all, did not interfere with the sound of the receiver. It may have actually improved it a bit.

Some people have had good luck with the 5000, but I'm glad I ended up with the 2500.

If you are serious about line conditioning, have a seperate line installed from your circuit breaker box to the outlet you use for your equipment. Get 10 gauge wire. It will really improve sound quality in addition to any power conditioning. I bought the acclaimed wattagate outlet from hcmaudio.com for about half the retail price ($130 vs. $240). If that costs too much, get a hubble hospital grade outlet for $20-$30. Don't use the 50 cent outlets for your equipment.

I've also played with power cords and recommend them. They really do work. Try either the Synergistic Research Master AC coupler (rave review from the Absolute Sound), or sonichorizon.com hurricane or skyline power cords from hcmaudio.com. The latter is a small production operation, but they are much more flexible than the synergistic research and twice as long - and they sound as good or better.

Strength:

good build good sound good video great filter

Weakness:

none at all

after much reserch and much reviews i chose this line conditioner. i went to hififorless.com cause the people below me had nothing bad to say about them and the price is low (list is 299). now if you read any of my other reviews, i am in the navy and live in base housen'. my house is 100 years old at the old chollas hights radio station. (transmitted the message across the country dec 7 in ww2) well, the transmitting station is gone now, but in its place across the street is the building and a museam. we are on the same trnsformer and it generates a ton of emi/rfi that absolutely ruins my digital cable. movies, mtv, discovery, tlc all the channels have lines ghosts and very strong video jitter in the corners. the guide box pic in pic didn't work. i gave this box a try...... and wow! all gone! pic in pic works! and i was using good cable! monster video 3, but nothing worked. this made a total believer out of me. so i waited for my wife to come back from the store, and she saw the picture and was like wow did you fix the cable? it looks great! so i then checked out the sound. it has a noticeable change in the staging. the mids and highs are clean bass is smooth. i am using speakers bi wired and bi amped. my system is high end consumer class stuff:
technics sfdx7 rec
technics shc-500 digital processor
sony es tape deck/mini disc/cd chager vcr
toshiba dvd (2108)
wharfedale speakers
cerwin sub
monster cables/ acustic reserch/ rca home thx cables/toslink/coax's
i would have to say that a line conditioner in your system can make the largest cost effective impact on your systems performance.

Does it make my system sound better? YESIs it worth the $225 I paid for it? Every penny.

Most noticable is the increase in transparency (and/or detail) as well as bass extension. Not to mention a "black hole" of a background. I purchased this unit over the HTS 2000 bacause the 2500 has Timed Switched outlets and can be hooked up in such a way the my remote turns on the whole system. Plus the 2500 has the same well recieved 2 stage power filters of the 2000.

Only problem is that there is a significant amp-pop when the 2500 turns on my amp, so much so that I have resorted to manually turning on an off my amp. I think that over all this unit is an excellent value. And it does make a differance!!!

Strength:

Outstanding sound, some improvement in picture clarity.

Weakness:

Only the audio components are remote-switchable.

Wow. Is this the same system? The single best investment I have made in my home theater in years! Given sensitive enough equipment (I have high-end video & entry-level high end audio) it can provide substantial improvements in sound (realism, warmth, detail) & some improvement in video from an LD/DVD source.

I was a bit miffed that this model can't switch non-audio components on/off via the remote switch. The next unit up the ladder can, but costs substantially more. However, in terms of performance I'm thrilled.

Strength:

Very good filtering. Remote operation. Sequenced power activation.

Weakness:

Needs a few more filtered audio outlets.

I have to admit, what lured me into looking at the HTS2500 was the remotely operated sequential power up feature. I was looking for something would handle time delayed powering of several amps and this looked like it might do the job. At the time I wasn't thinking about line conditioning, or even thought I had the need for it. However, from the moment I installed the unit, there was an immediate improvement to every aspect of the sound of my audio system. Backgrounds were quieter, the bottom end was tighter, the midrange was a bit smoother, and the high end was crisper and far more detailed. To be quite honest, I was quite shocked by the change. I tried switching back to the standard power strip I had been using (a professional grade, high current model), and the sound indeed reverted back to its old (now unsatisfying) self.

The remote sequencing works like a champ as well. My only complaint is a need for more sequenced outlets (it has 2) and a few more unsequenced audio filtered outlets (again, there are only 2). However, given both its price and its quality, I really can't be critical. Its made a wonderful addition to my audio system.
