Strength:

Good sound quality, nice shape

Weakness:

no bass and tremble adjustment

I bought it in a big shop in Shanghai. I think this model sound quality is better than my former UX7000 and the shape is more classical. So I decided to put it on my desk.

Strength:

Excellent sound quality, good visual appearance, has both tape and CD.

Weakness:

No way to modify sound other than DSG on/off. Remote could be labeled better, typical for Sony. Speaker wires permanently attached to speakers.

This system was purchased specifically to go in an office environment. The main criteria were blending in well visually, while still sounding very nice. It does these both very well. Even at very low volumes, the sound quality is much better than any of the "portables." I got this one at Best Buy for $240. The other executive systems from JVC, etc. are $300 and up, without tape. Just for a kick we hooked this unit up to a subwoofer at home via the line out. Excellent results! Add that sub and this could make a great home system for someone that doesn't care to adjust the tone, etc. The remote is small enough to "hide" in the desktop clutter while the unit is behind me. Unless you are really after the minimalist look in "executive systems," this is a great buy with great sound.

Strength:

Excellent sound quality

Weakness:

None, really.

I was looking for a good looking system with a clean, crisp sound. And this micro-system works wonders with its sound. It maintains a good base and mid-range whilst projecting higher frequency sounds. Thus you can hear crashing symbols, vocals and the base line all audible and distinguishable. I have tried all music types from classical, pop and rock and dance. And it is competent with all. For instance listen to the serenity of Mahler's 5th or to the tortured beauty of Radiohead's the bends. After listenting you will not want to leave it alone. However it may not please those who want a thumping base with their music.

This system consists of a tape, cd and radio. And sony have effectively ensured its clean sound quality runs through the system. Overall for a system that cost me £200 with a superb sound and shiny silverey looks to match then certainly I have got a fine system. I would expect a system of this quality to cost at least £300. So if you really want a fantastic system that is cheap and looks good then I highly recommend this system.

Strength:

Great for connecting to PC
Small
Looks great
The orange lcd doesn't light up my room at night (good for sleeping)

Weakness:

Impossible to program tape
Can't read LCD unless you are in front of it
Cant turn to video with remote

I have the CP11. Its great! But...
When proraming the tape to record at a certain time i might get it right 50% of the time, its very hard! You never know what side its going to start on.
I dont listen to classical music - mostly alternative & Dance stuff - but i find it sounds great even with DSG, i think that it (DSG) makes the Radio so much better
You can't read the time unless you are in front of the display and that can be annoying.
Buy it if you would like a system for your room, etc
If you want a very good looking, small but still powerful system... buy it.
I have had it for 11 months now and haven't had any problems, I have a heap of sony stuff like a walkman and that is dropped on a regular basis and hasn't broken so i dont expect this to either.
It wasnt that cheap in australia over 500 AUD$ but i have seen new models so this one can only get cheaper.

Strength:

Quality of sound, operating features.

Weakness:

Lack of sound adjustments

I was looking for a small system for my bedroom. I started by looking at the Aiwa XR-M55, which sells locally for right around $200.

The only reason for looking at the Sony was that the retailer I was shopping at online, didn't carry the Aiwa line.

After going back to a local store and comparing the two units, it sounded like the Sony provided a better quality sound than the Aiwa.

Both units are limited in how you can modify the sound, but the Sony is SEVERELY limited! It has what is called a Dynamic Sound Generator. It is either on, or off. That is the only modification that you can make.

For me, that limitation isn't a big factor, but I could see where it would steer an audiophile away from this particular unit.

I was able to by the Sony at One Call Audio for $215, including FedEx shipping. That compares to a $268 price, including tax, locally!

Strength:

compact size
sound quality
easy to use
several line lever input/output jacks for expanding
Good bass response from small speakers

Weakness:

DSG tends to sound a little harsh with some music

Good compact system with a good amount of features. Sound quality is superb considering the small size of the speaker cabinets. 3 pairs of line level in/out jacks make system upgrades/additions easy.

I currently run my stereo VCR and Sony playstation through it and it works great. I am considering adding a second amp off the third pair of line outputs, or I could add an amplified subwoofer for even more bass. Great system flexibility!!

the sound quality is its best asset. The DSG enhancement is perfect for new age jazz and classical music. It increases the bass output without sounding boomy or excessive, while the mid range and trebble bands are enhanced as well. The only time the DSG sounded bad is with solo trumpets or rock guitars, where the extra edge made it a bit over-bright every once in a while.

Overall good system that can be fairly easily expanded. Great for Sony Playstations.

Strength:

Great sound for such a small unit. Nice appearance.

Weakness:

Could use some sound equalization.

After careful comparison with similar units, I found the Sony to be the best buy, even when compared with systems twice the price. Sound is crisp, clear, and full. The only down side is the all or nothing approach of DSG where an EQ would have been better. The ultimate test was with my girlfriend . . . put her right at ease!

Strength:

Size, finishes, value for money, good sound

Weakness:

Although many have contrasting idea opinion about it, I think this is one of the best and cheap (not about the price really, but the quality)unit of the decade!

The DSG is a main concern; if it's activated, at times it can be rather unpleasant to some musics. As for Classical music lovers, I can assure you that this Sony is a friend of Bach (instrumental) to Verdi! (operas)

The size is fantastic... again, the quality is superb. The speaker is a concern to me but I am sure there are avenues for improvement; one can replace with a better, non Sony speakers.

I think it's one of the best product of the decade. Got to end here, the mighty J.S. Bach organ track of my CD (currently playing) is coming up shortly next; don't think I can concentrate writing anymore but to listen to the heavenly sound.....again and again..
