Strength:

Stunning Design

Weakness:

Distortion at higher volume

Wonderful blend in design, sounds great except for distortion at higher volume. Use monster cables could dissolve some distortion.

I must that I am totally amazed by the clarity and the taut bass this integrated unit can deliver. The music is musical and resolution is reasonably good compared to similar products.

If you want something that looks sleeks and sounds reasonably good, take a listen to it.

Strength:

Great sound for the money, awesome looks

Weakness:

None for the money

I have never used a mini system before, having mono-tubes and separates. My "home" system has something like 15K invested in it; this system is less than a grand. You really can't go wrong with Nakamichi (at least lately). I had one of the original dragons, and an old TA tuner/amp. Never had a problem with them. The people that don't like the SS8 are the ones expecting a Ferrari for the price of a Yugo. I say pay the $$$ and get what you pay for. Terrific sound for a small space, and can’t beat the looks.
Hey all you doubting Thomas’s, I hear K-mart has a sale on some Sony systems for under a grand that play really LOUDLY...

Strength:

A compact unit that offers great sound as well as head turning looks.

Weakness:

Although it is beautiful, it is not as eye cathing as the Sound Space 5.

I initially purchased the Sound Space 5, however that was a disaster. I had to take it back 3 times due to what the store in the end called a `design fault`. I have also submitted a review of the SS5. In the end I decide to give the Sound Space 8 a try, and if I was not happy then I would get my money back.

Well I wish I had just gone straight for the 8. Thankfully it did not have the same fault as the SS5. The 8 has also got loads more punch that the SS5 and although I am not as keen on the looks as I was with the SS5, I really like the way the combination of the Satellites and Sub, fill the room with a very spacious sound. The mid and treble are crisp and accurate and the bass is deep and fast. This combination makes for a great listening experience. Other reviews mention distortion at loud levels, but to be honest I have not really noticed that.

The 5 Disc Music Bank is excellent and only takes a few seconds to change from one CD to the next. It also comes with 2 remote controls, which is great, as I always lose one down the side of the sofa. And the fact that you can wall mount the unit makes it look even better.

I have also linked my TV and Video to the SS8, and it just brings the whole film to life. I don’t know how I ever watched TV before!!!!

If you want a stereo that turns heads for sound as well as looks, then the SS8 is for you.

Strength:

Convenient, tunefull and easy on the eyes.
Typical Nakamichi thinking and creativeness
Better sound than the B&O products

Weakness:

You can't break your lease with it.
Subwoofer isn't a true subwoofer. It is base reinforcement.
AM Antenna is a little clunky, but who needs AM.

For the $1000 street price this is a great deal. Is it a pair of tube-driven Snells pumping out 500 watts per channel? No, but you get a lot of value and quality sound for your money. Two remotes is a brilliant idea, the CD handling is smooth with some thoughtfull automation and memory tricks.

If you want real headbanging sound pressure, get the Nakamichi SoundSpace 5 and put $800 into a true subwoofer. Course, then your talking a lot more money than you'd spend for the Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.

The 8 is designed for apartments and smaller spaces where convenience, inobtrusiveness and sound quality are important. Use it for what is was designed for and you will be happy. I am.
