Strength:

compact, pretty well made, ease of operation, sounds good for a mini system, would probably sound even better hitched up to some nice bookshelf speakers like Kef or gale gold's.

Weakness:

cd player is fussy and sometimes takes several attempts to make it accept your cd...BUT..this may be just a particular fault with the one I have.

Well.. I bought this stereo at a boot fair for £10, I just wanted a simple cheap amp to play stuff from my pc. It does that job nicely !! for a cheapy it sounds pretty damned good to me. The sound is crisp and clear, the bass is ample for a small room and all in all ..very easy to listen to. The only downer is the cd player is a tad fussy about the cd's it accepts. and it changes from day to day, a cd it rejected one day, it will accept another day..bit like a woman really !!! only cheaper !! The cassette decks work incredibly well, especially good for recording direct from the pc radio (ie:live365..highly recommended!) it has a continuous play switch, which means you can leave it running and when it gets to the end of side one, it will flip it over and carry on recording on side 2 !! you just have to remember to flip the switch off again or it will start all over again on side 1. I haven't used the tuner yet and probably not likely to, as apart from live365, I have a beautiful vintage NAD4020A tuner attached to a NAD3020 AMP which is absolutely divine ! I didn't get a remote control with it, so I can't comment on that...and that's another good thing, it's still easy to operate without a remote !! some hi-fi's I've had in the past are a pain in the arse to operate without a remote. so to conclude...if you're looking for a simple hi-fi with a good quality sound for a studio or bedroom...look no further, this one will do you just fine.

I bought this little puppy 5 years ago at BestBuy for $270 dollars. I alsopurchased the extended warranty for 4 years that I never had to use! First
of all, the cassette deck is just so quality constructed. I have recorded
about a 1,000 90 minute maxell type II tapes on it and it still sounds great!
(ofcouse i've regularly cleaned the heads and demagnatized them). I'm a music
freak, so I have to have music all the time, so I can honestly say that i've
used this atleast 5 hours every day average for the last 5 years. That is
close to 10,000 hours, either the radio or cd or tapes. I never replaced
the speakers. This unit is made with such good quality parts. I never
had a single problem with it. NOT even a minor one. I have to say that
the JVC engineers knew what they were doing when they designed this unit.
It is perfect for the bedroom or the dorm. I know you can't find this new
anymore, but if you ever come across a used one in good condition, don't let
it pass you up. I've also used it as an alarm clock since i've had it. I have
used this minisystem for so many different things because of the aux input,
from video sound processors to connecting it to my soundcard and using it
for games to parties. Just an awesome system. The best 270 bucks I ever
spent. I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts another 5 years without any
problems. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.
