Strength:

dolby digital receiver... that's all

Weakness:

lacking subwoofer, cheap speakers.
High retail price of $840... not worth any more than $500-550

For the $280 I bought this set for, i'd say it was worth any penny, but anymore than $500, and I'd say stay away from this enticing home theater package. Pioneer dazzles you with the specs of a 600 total watt package, and the 100 watt rated speakers are completely overrated. I doubt these things would be able to get any louder than my 6 watt cambridge computer speakers although I did try once, being limited by the poorly constructed subwoofer that couldn't keep up. I had to drop the test as my ears we're pleading me to stop because of that horrible sounding muddy subwoofer. The thing was rattling and I was barely 3/4 maximum volume. Now if I've ever seen a sh*tty sub, this is it. I had to rig my setup by putting the front of the sub tightly against a pillow to prevent it from emmitting that annoying rattling noise. Even still, it was muddy and could barely fill my small room. Although I'm glad I sold this system and rid of it, I do admit that I kinda miss the vsx-508 receiver which was the flagship of the system. Oh well, I did make 200% profit so I'm not complaining...
