Strength:

Smooth operation, very fast rewind, niece pic and sound easy to use.

Weakness:

Weak construction but that goes for every brand. STAY AWAY FROM JVC.

I bought two of these vcrs on may 2002. I had a jvc prior and it was the worst piece of junk ever, tapes kept getting stuck in there and sometimes it would completely shut off and I had to unplug, wait and then plug it back in. The Panasonic in comparison is as smooth as silk and it works with all tapes. It is of flimsy construction and as far as reliability goes I have been lucky (so far) but the vcr always feels very light and delicate to the touch and I wouldn't be surprised if it would break, however for the price I'll just replace it with a new one. Mind you that all brands, today, make very cheap and flimsy vcrs and it is not Panasonic only.

This is junk. After 4.5 months of LIGHT use (only good quality blank tapes) and the carriage mechanism failed. Repair shop said every Panasonic made in 2002 has a bad carriage assembly.
