Strength:

Many user-friendly features; great playback quality

Weakness:

none

Purchased 10/23/99. Used several times to record from Direct TV with great results. Compared to Toshiba and Hitachi VCRs and found it to be a great value.

Strength:

Nice Design, Nice remote

Weakness:

Haven't found any yet

Just pick up this unit today at Best Buy for 139.99 in exchange of the sony slv679hf. The sony is small, but had a nice design also. when I played a tape on the sony, I noticed a bright line on top of the tv screen. I returned it for the panasonic that I liked a lot. I didn't noticed any bright line with the panasonic. The remote control is nice with a lot of features that the sony doesn't have. I have it hook up to my sony receiver and the picture quality is very good for prerecorded VHF tapes, and the HI-FI sound is exellent. It also has VCR+, which I don't know how to use yet, and index, tape guide search, lots of features that you probably won't find on any other VCR.

Strength:

Good picture, sound, remote

Weakness:

on screen display is kind of ugly

I bought this to replace an old JVC 4 head hi-fi that broke. This unit's picture is good, but seems to me a notch lower than the JVC. The thing that annoys me about this is that the display on the vcr never has the position of the tape. It either says the current time, REC, PLAY, FF, RW, or STOP. The only counter it has is the on screen display that overlaps the picture. That's just a little annoyance, but other than that its been flawless for over 4 or 5 months now. I got it for 139 at CC (forgive me).

Strength:

The picture quality seems good for the price. Controls on the main unit and the remote work logically and well. Rental tapes play back with reasonably good picture quality.

Weakness:

Program search function occasionally does not work; it sometimes fails to find the recorded program which I previously indexed. Another glitch is the crude stopping action when coming out of a fast forward or fast reverse. Prior vcrs worked in a much smoother fashion than this. Of course, this could simple be the quirks of this particular unit and may not be representative of all 9451s.

This Panasonic unit performs reasonably well on the functions that matter most to me: taping and replaying TV shows; playing rented tapes. I am somewhat concerned with the less than stellar rewind and index search functions.

I've had the 9451 for 10 days now. I purchased an open box unit at HH Gregg for $105(plus tax). The picture and sound quality on new pre-recorded tapes
is excellent. Rental tape playback quality will largely depend on the tape
condition, but the 9451's digital auto tracking and auto. picture control has
been fairly good to this point. When recording broadcast at SLP speed, the playback quality does have the common surrounding visual noise that you'll see with any other unit at this speed, but the picture sharpness and color is still
very good. For serious recording or dubbing, you should use the better quality
SP speed, as this noticeably improves the playback. My only beef is the picture
jitter at slow motion, but then this isn't 1993, when they made vcr's better.

Strength:

Awesome picture quality

Weakness:

Ugly on screen display, recording occasionally glitched

I had high hopes when buying this VCR (at Boscov's for $140) because I knew of Panasonic as a good brand name. My primary use for it was as a recording VCR for dubbing other tapes, and when I played back the tapes recorded on this Panasonic, the video was extremely glitchy. I didn't have this problem when recording straight off TV, though. Also, the set up for VCR Plus is extremely non user friendly and counter-intuitive. Because my main use for the VCR was for a recording VCR for dubbing, I returned it, took a trip to the local Sony Outlet and bought a SLV-662HF that does the same as the Panasonic PV-9451 and more for only $95. So if you're interested in just taping off of TV or satellite, this is a good VCR; however, for dubbing, look elsewhere!

Strength:

Everything.

Weakness:

Nothing.

I can't really give a review of this machine. It is just such an incredible machine for the price and I would seriously recommend anyone looking for a VCR to pick up this one. My only gripe is that it's not component width, but that's a very tiny gripe.
Just in case anyone doesn't know the features of this VCR:
-Remarkable OSD
-VCR Plus
-Front AV jacks
-Rear AV in/out jacks
-RF in/oput
-Time/Memo stamp
-Illuminated remote. Very intuitive.
-Hi-Fi 4 head

Great machine.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality, great remote.

Weakness:

The OSD isn't pretty.

First off, I was pretty impressed at the improved picture and sound quality I got after replacing my aging GE. The remote is nice, too. The "Lighttower" that they package with most of their VCRs now is universal (it's currently programmed to operate the VCR, TV, and cable box) and is backlit to boot. The front panel jacks come in handy when I want to hook up the Playstation or Dreamcast.

I don't watch a lot of broadcast TV anymore, so VCR Plus is kind of a useless feature for me. I suppose it's good though to have it there for those who can actually use it.

I'm no expert on VCRs, but I will say that I'm impressed with this product and it should be reliable, judging from my experience with Panasonic products in the past.
