Strength:

Lineless scanning, some nifty (but fairly usless) frills.

Weakness:

Defective refurb unit

Well this thing came out of the box ok, except for the fact that the rewind and FF search was way too noisy. then about a month in snow started showing up on the screen whenever the power was on. Probably a gounding prob or something.
This was a factory refurb, and the JVC techs didn't even clean it properly, because there was some sticky foam tape still on it (from an "open box buy" sign I'm sure). So it had probably been returned twice before I got it. I got ripped off, but that's what happens when you buy refurbs with moving parts. I just got the repair estimate back and the FF REW noist will cost $97 to fix. Tempted to buy a sony. But I have had good luck with JVC in the past, this is actually the first Item I have had that's sub-standard, probably came out of the factory that way and it just kept getting recycled until I got it.
On the plus side, The features are very good, (like lineless scanning) and sound while scanning, and it still works so I will give it a 2.

Strength:

no scan lines when searching, plays audio when searching

Weakness:

Defective factory refurb unit, Smudges on factory return unit.

I was so sory to so my Sony go, it had been an absolute trooper for the 10 years I had it ( i have to write a good review on here for it.) But finally it started scraping of the coating on my tapes and it was time for it to go. I will sorely miss it.
Well, I got this little thing as a factory refurb fron JVC. It was obviously a defective unit as it had been returned to wherever it was sold from at least twice. There was a piece of foam sticky tape from where the dealer had attached his "open box buy" sign (or whatever) that the JVC techs did not even bother to remove. All this I noticed just after I got it out of the box.
Then the problems started. I hooked it up and put in a tape and everything looked ok, until I hit the search button. What a racket! I have never heard a VCR scan so loud I was afrid for my tape's life! but it's just loud nothing else. Unfortunatly I doubt if UBid would have refunded me for just that.
But then about a month after I recieved it, I turn on my TV (clear picture) and then my VCR power and hit the VCR/TV button, and the picture goes all snowy. So now I gotta go repair it and see if that helps. I am dissapointed in this product, but I think it's just a bad unit. I have had great car decks from jvc and I hear good things about their recievers which I am looking to get (RX-700BK).
The features on the unit are great, it's all full of gizmos, I really like the line-less search-scanning
Overall this was a good value at $100 but the sloppy look-see at the factory gets low marks and it will cost me a minimum of $50 to have it repared (if they can really fix it that is)
