The hard disk storage system has a problem for classical music listeners.

I was very disappointed to find that it puts a gap (and a click) between every track. Try listening to an opera like this - it is ruined.

Bose say they are aware of the problem, but there have not been enough complaints for them to bother to correct the fault!

Strength:

Total convenience....very good service from company. when one speaker went bad and had questions on storing music. Listenable over long periods of time. Great remote function. Hides well. Self adjusting, sounds good everwhere w/o beaming. Very compact.

Weakness:

If you're a "techey" and want to tweak and compare with other systems..this ain't for you. You're a PC buff and not a Mac owner.

The LS 48 is the best all round system going. Would I have paid that much for it had it not been a gift.....no. But we love it; more each day we use it. It's total music convenience. Are the people that dump on Bose, the same that dump on Mac computers ? Seems to me. The sound has it's limitations....But in the 40 years I have been chasing the best speaker system, and ultimately building my own at one point, my conclusion is this. Music appreciation is a personal matter. EQ's, analyzers, sound pressure meters etc. I've used them all in house to evaluate my speakers. They are all starting point; after that let your taste take over. Having someone tell me not to buy a Bose speaker is like telling me not to buy "Steely Dan and Neil Young". I'm tired of listening to employees of home entertainment depts. tell me which systems to buy and how Bose does not produce the "full range" sound. Bose does produce a profit...and someone out there must like them. Stop crying and compete.
Our family room has a "better sounding" component system. Guess what ? We don't use it .

Customer Service

Excellent thus far as I would expect for a $4 K all in one unit.

I have read other people's reviews and I've decided that I must chime in my opinion too. After listening to this product a few months ago, I came out of the store confused. Why does a product that cost so much sounds so terrible?

No really, I don't understand other peoples positive remarks. Is it because they don't have anything else to compare it to? Do they do comparitive auditions in Walmart or Sears against the best Emerson and Aiwa products? The Bose Lifestyle 48 is devoid of any mid-range sounds because the tweeter is so small. It has poor imaging - sound is flat, too 2-deminsional. The high tones is way too bright like an over hyped alarm clock radio. The subwoofer has too much distortion on low range frequency like the kicker boxes in those fast/furious cars. Where is the balance? It is like buying a bad car with all the of bells and whistles with so many functions but with no power or handling.

In the end, I bought a superior system for around the same cost:
Oppo OPDV971H Dvd player $199
Arcam AVR350 receiver $2500
Monitor Audio Silver RS6 speakers $800
Total = $3500

Strength:

-360 hours downloadable music to the systems and instant replay and music slect which allows the system to understand you playing habits and play those automatically -expandable to over 10 rooms and play in multiple places at the same time. -great sound, (bass and treble) -amazing jaw dropping design -smaller then ever cube speakers -easy to learn system

Weakness:

MRSP price is high, (I suggest buying from www.eurosoundz.com , they will ship the system to you in 5 days or less for half the price you would pay in the stores. Dual voltage , region free available and great customer service.

Bose Lifestyle 48 system outperforms all previous Bose Lifestyle and Receiver Acoustimass combos. The Bose Lifestyle 48 system has now made other high end speaker and component manufactors step up the luzuries of the entire home theater system application. You cannot find a better sounding Bose speaker - bass moduel - media center combonation on the market. The expansion, frills, design, power, sound and easy of use of this system is geared towards the customer branded public. This system is slightly expensive at all Bose stores but you can find a Bose Lifestyle 48 system with dual voltage, region free dvd player at www.eurosoundz.com for half the price thus making this unit very attractive to anyone worldwide in this market. The system was bought by myself for multi room reasons and space requirements. I have not experienced and more friendly on screen setup and display and sheer volume of recordable songs onto the system from any other system. Overall this system is a dream for somebody which like home theater and stereo sound and wants to be able to not have to change disc every hour. The total specs are available at www.bose.com and if your in the market for this type of stereo/home theater system go to the nearest showroom to hear and expereince the Bose Lifestyle 48 system.

Strength:

Design and style - excellent craftmanship and chrome highlights

Weakness:

price - unless you shop around like at www.pinnaclesound.com where it is $3399

The Bose Lifestyle 48 system is truely remarkable. With the new technology and the very cool design it will be a benchmark for all. Current prices of the Bose Lifestyle 48 systems are at $3399 at www.pinnaclesound.com and this includes a better then Bose warranty (worldwide). the lifestyle 48 system is able to download 100's of hours worth of your favorite music and store it inside the media center so that you dont need to have those cd's laying around and cluttering up the floor and entertainment unit at home. the sound is clear, and has enough bass to rock your blinds.. this system in short is 9/10 for audio reproduction and 10/10 for design and style.
