Strength:

Cheap
Extra features

Weakness:

Some flaws in playing certain DVDs
Slow CD audio load time

This player can be found for a better price than most players out there, but you get what you pay for. For the most part, it does the job pretty well with some nice features such as 4 and 16x zoom. However, when playing certain DVDs with fast moving action sequences (The Matrix), the DVD will "freeze up" for about half a second. In addition to this, the unit does not play audio CDs all that well, taking too long to load and not reading some correctly.

Strength:

it's cheap ...

Weakness:

... but it's crap!

This player has not been able to play one DVD without skipping or freezing. It's torture trying to watch the Matrix on this thing. And yes, the errors are reproducible on some DVDs. Lucky me this piece of crap player belongs to my roommate. :)

Do not buy this player!

Strength:

price,performance

Weakness:

less buffer results in slight pauses during layer transitions

i work for a major retailer of electronics, and i want to clarify something. many discs use a dual layer system. early players had trouble with this. if tou look at the back of the packaging of the dvd's, they will say if it is a dual layer disc. the matrix is an extremely poor design. there is no reason it needs to transition more than once, but does so at least 6 times, and during action scenes. it is true that other players buffer more efficiently than the zenith and do not show the half second pause the zenith does.i have viewed between 60-80 movies since i bought the player, and about 25-30 of them are dual layer. the only problematic disc is the matrix(which i own), which is still very watchable and enjoyable, but has the annoying pauses. i have yet to come across another movie which reproduces this design, even from the same dvd manufacturer.

Strength:

This player would freeze when playng Matrix. I sent it back to zentith and they upgraded it, but now it will not play discs that have pan and scan version on reverse side. I called zenith but they never called me back with an answer. I sent them a letter and they responed with thank you for your letter and send it back again. I think not. This player is a piece of junk. Save your money and buy a different brand.

Strength:

This DVD player is a standard single-disc with 10 bit converter...It is fairly streamlined and has a lot of features for the money but you can do better...I would suggest the DVC 2550...it was Zeniths first attempt at a DVD player so expect some bugs...

Weakness:

It has major problems playing some DVDs as it is a first generation player. It has a lot of instances of skipping and freezing as well as pixellization due to the first generation firm-ware installed in the 2200...for a time there was no fix for this and there were a lot of returns however now the firm-ware can be updated at an authorized service dept. Unfortunately I would say as is this DVD player is worth only $75.00 new...and I would not buy it for that knowing what I know now...

This product while exciting to "newbies" with its digital sound and zoom features is not worth purchasing because of its many issues playing movies...most first generation players had the same problems and this one was no exception my advice is to pass this product by unless it is a gift...

I bought the 2200 about 3 months ago as a cheap way to get into the DVD world(paid $199 at the time). I didn't have any problems with it until I tried playing Matrix which resulted in a 'check disc' error on the screen. Apparently this problem happens on a lot of DVD players. But I was afraid that this would happen to other newer DVDs as well so I returned it for a Phillips/Mag 825 which plays The Matrix no prob. As for the 2200, I had no problems before the Matrix incident. The sound and video were excellent(better than the Phillips as far as I can tell) and the remote was nice. I'll give it 4 stars despite the Matrix problem(probably would've given it 5 stars without the problem)

Weakness:

None found

Bought it for my mom to play CD's and DVD's. The salesperson told me that the Zenith on sale worked well, better them some models more expensive. Don't let the low price bother me. Anyway, got it home, set up took 2 minutes and it has played every CD and DVD without any hassles. What more can I expect for a sub $100 DVD player.

Strength:

Zoom feature 4x and 16x. FF and Rew 2x, 4x,...up to 100x. Nice remote, and easy to setup and understand menus.

Weakness:

None as of yet.

Unlike previous reviewers, mine works fine. It was manufactured in Aug 2000. Whatever problems they had in the past seem to have been corrected. I was attracted to this model because of the price. It wasn't until after I had used it for a couple of weeks that I saw the reviews, and was afraid that I bought a lemon, but I have had no problems. It plays multi-layered movies without a problem, including Matrix, (the holy grail of DVD quality testing).

I thought this product was great. I had no problem with the Matrix like other reviewers. I think that this is a great, top quality, product.
