I purchased the SD3109 from OneCall for 378.27 (including shipping costs to Hawaii).
This is a great little DVD player. Pros: Great picture and sound, Dual tray loading, Zoom feature, and easy set-up. Cons: So, So remote (although not that terrible).

The price is right and so is this DVD player, I would give it a clear 5 star rating.

First of all fool, I was not comparing the Sony 7000 to the Toshiba. I was merely stating that I took back the toy and got my self a serious piece of equiptment. I was disappointed with the Toshiba because it wasn't nearly as impressive as people were making it out to be........you get what you pay for....bells and whistles does not mean quality(HDCD, dual tray)..you'd be wise to test out this player before taking it home.......

I hope this is not the type of posting you have requested we not post. This forum seems to be the best way to share information.
Pacific Micro/HDCD is looking into the audible clicking sound the 3109 makes when starting as well as skipping tracks with HDCD encoded disk. The following is the contact and the email address.

Andy Johnson
ajohnson@hdcd.com

If you have the 3109 and you've listened to HDCD disk and noticed the clicking inbetween tracks or at the start of playback, please contact him. He indicated HDCD playback is not suppose to have that click.

Thank you

I've had the 3109 for a month and i love it. Great features at a great price ($330 bucks at brandsmart + 5 free DVDs plus 15 DVD rentals). It's hooked up to a Toshiba Cinema Series 32" via color stream cables and the picture is beautiful! CDs sound good (not great) but I got the 3109 for HT not audio use.
I bought a sony 550 first but noticed lip sync problems in the first 5 minutes of play and exchanged it for the 3109.

It's a great low-price, full-featured player; I give it 5 stars b/c of its bang-for-your-buck ratio.

I had this unit for about two and half months.Overall, I am satisfied with this unit even though
it doesn't meet my expectation on CD audio(I never
tried HDCD). One problem I had recently is the player
doesn't recognize any CD/DVD inserted, so that I had to
bring it for repair(fortunately it is still within 3 month
warranty). It turns out the problem is due to optical sensor.
I hope it is only my bad luck and not the quality issue.
For the performance/price, I bought it from Onecall at $369 including
S/H, I still give it 4 stars

I've had it for a month I love it!! I've seen a panasonic and a sony in the comparable price range and this thing kicks their butts in price to performance to features. I've heard a bunch of negative reviews about problems with the unit, but if you get one that works, I think you'll be happy.
btw, got mine at consumer-direct for $319.99 + $12.95 shipping and came with 5 free dvds and a free t-shirt. It came within 3 days of ordering it.

I bought this unit for three reasons: 1) no know instances of the infamous 'lip synch' problem that have affected some other brands, 2) I can avoid anamorphic DVD downconversion issues by running my Sony TV (KV-27S66) in 16:9 mode, and 3) to listen to my growing HDCD collection. I was apprehensive about the clicks that have been reported when starting or scanning HDCDs. With my unit it seems to vary from HDCD to HDCD. For instance my HDCD of the Grateful Dead, 'Fillmore East 2-11-69,' has no clicks whatsoever while my HDCD of Old & In the Way, 'Breakdown,' clicks when starting the cd and when manually skipping from track to track. In each occasion it sounds like a relay is turning on. Since I presume the HDCDs are all manufactured within spec I can only fault the player and thus give it four stars. Clicks aside the HDCD discs do sound real nice!

I purchased the SD-3109 due to all of the features. I would like to say that I am extremely happy with that purchase. I have had the unit for 2 months now and am still crazy about it. The lighted remote is nice and so is the ability to have 2 DVD's in at once. I can't think of anything negative to say.

The 3109 is a solid performer. Though not built like a rock {light weight}, it performs great. This player is loaded with features and for the money, its will be hard to beat. I picked this player due to all the positive feedback on this site. No lip sync probs {like so many Sonys have been reported}and every disk ive played {30+}, played perfectly. I highly recommend this player.

I have had this player for a few weeks now...got it for 319.00 atOnecall.....btw they are great....price wise atleast.

I know all of you guys are trying to find the little tiny problems
that exist according to you and you only.... Here is what I think of
the player:

A. The machine is well built and so far has had none of the problems
that others have listed. I have played about 30-40 movies on it so
far and must say I am extremely satisfied...considering I use a 7 year
old 27" Sony Television with SVHS Inputs.

B. The remote----->so there is no jog dial...I am sure we can deal
with pressing a button and holding it down for an extra
second...besides if it bothers you so much get a three hundred dollar
remote that does everything you want it to except get your beer from
the fridge.

C. The dual tray design.....sure you may think its a little fragile
but then arent all electronic components. The thing wasnt meant to be
dropped on the floor from time to time nor was it meant for your 4
year old kid to play with....

The unit is meant to play DVD's and all of the other formats...cd's,
hdcd's, vcd's, and it does that very very well. I have heard some
people complaining about what they see on the screen and I would
recommend highly that you get a nice SVHS cable......not a monster
cable....which is overpriced but a nice simple good quality
cable....lets talk RADIO SHACK....yes RADIO SHACK....they sell a nice
15 dollar SVHS cable which works perfectly and has been tested time
and time again..(Note get a sound level meter from RShack also so you
can tune your sound field to your environment....trust me its the best
35 bucks I spent to get my sound perfected...)

The machine is great and the price is perfect....if I were you and in
the market for a DVD player I would get this one.......I give this player a 5 for overall satisfaction....
