I bought this unit about three months ago, this is my second DVD player after the SD2006 which long time ago.I heard that this DVD player is a good deal for its price, and it is true,
picture quality is good compare to other DVD that is in this price range.
The sound also amazing with the price u can get for it.
The best thing i like about this dvd is, its remote control, it is very cool
compare to Sony DVD players.
I just recently sold this unit because i got a new DVD player
but i like this unit and i'm giving it 4 stars for it's performance and quality.
that 4 stars is for DVD player that is in SD2008 price range.
of course 5 stars is only for other outstanding DVD player that will cost you more

Weakness:

No video CD playback:(

I received my SD-2008 as a Christmas present in 1998 and couldn't be more pleased with it (apart from the video CD capability). At first, the image would white out when a scene with really bright lighting would display. I thought the problem was with the DVD player and was about to take it back on warranty, but the I got a new television. The problem ended up being my old 1984 Sony Trinitron. Even since the purchase of the new TV, the image has been rock solid and smooth and the audio (especially the dynamic) has been fantastic. If you don't care about video CD playback, I would definitely recommend this unit to you.

Strength:

The zoom I loved it! To get features like that you are really looking for a model thats up, up in the dollar amount. And most importantly for one a machine that is user friendly. The remote is the best.

Weakness:

None, I loved it.

First DVD player I ever bought didn't know much about them. Only thing I knew I was I wanted one. Now it's my job to know everything about them. Found one in Solomons one day, the box looked like it had taken a walked on the wrong side of town. But it shure played well. Wow! The neatest little toy I had ever had. Very shortly ended up selling it. Toshiba was comming out the sd-3109 this was and still is a really cool product. However when I had enough to buy it, Toshiba came out with the SD-4109s. Something else in the world of DVDs. The 4109s has HDCD. Instead of reading at 16 bits audio it reads at 20 bits. You can litterly hear the bass line being played, and also the light rolls of a jazz drummer. If you're looking for a dvd player, Toshiba is by far the best. And thats' on any model. Toshiba starts out better and then they just cant stop they execed. Yea go toshiba!

I have found the information on this site EXTREMELY helpful! I know only one review should be posted per individual, but I must add to my previous review. I had to send my player to Toshiba to correct the dropout problem (a very serious issue.) I just received my unit back from Toshiba and they have effectivly corrected the audo dropout problem. Due to the excellent performance, given the very modest price, I will have to increase my rating to Five Stars! Toshiba paid for the shipping to get the unit to their factory and sent me another unit with the updated software within 5 business days! That is excellent customer service!
