Strength:

Decent remote.

Weakness:

Horrible atheistics. Blurry, muddy picture. Flat, harsh sound in all playback modes(D.D,DTS,SACD). A cheap unit.

Let me start off with this. I feel the purpose of a DVD player is to decode a disc and send out a plain, uncolored signal. Nothing more. Onboard sound processing is not needed because you will purchase a much better chip in either a processor or receiver. Onboard video processing other than the progressive scan doubling is not needed either. With this aside, I'll begin the review. I took this item home as a demo to try it out along side with a Marantz DV6200. Now I understand that the 6200 is $600 while the 755 is $250 but read on. Although the price is different by a small margin (in the world of good DVD players $350 is small)But running both in 480p, the difference was not. The Marantz blew away the Sony in every way imaginable. The Sony had a very blurry, muddy image. And to clear the component issue I was using Tributaries Direct connect component, 75ohm Digital, and audio cables. I feel these cables would not blur the sound or picture in any way. The Sony also has obnoxious on board video settings, who needs that? If my TV is calibrated and set there is no need to compensate through the DVD player. As for the sound the beautiful warmth and detail of D.D. and DTS present on the Marantz was all but gone on the Sony. It had a digital harshness and flat sound. I will say 2ch was a bit better, but still not up to par. As for SACD playback, I have heard SACDs played on the 999ES and the difference was staggering! The 755 did portray the dynamic range well, but the soundstage was flat and uninspired, not to par with other SACD players. My personal opinion? If you can't currently afford a more expensive player, save up and then buy one. It will be worth the wait. Don't waste your money on a poor "Jack of all trades"

I actually bought this unit because it sounds so much better than my Pioneer. I must admit I was surprised at how nice a dvd player it also is. At first I thought picture was soft or a little blurry. After getting the settings straight though things took off. This may well be the best interlaced picture I have ever seen. You can adust sharpness. color, brightness and hue through sony commands or a more subtle adjustment can be made also. the cd player side has not dissapointe me either. They sound great. Once again I had to adjust some audio settings but regular cd"s sound fantastic. My unit came with a SACD sampler-I havnt tried it yet though. I hardy think anone will be dissapointed with this player, on either front, picture or sound. Is a $1000 player better? Yes. but at 200 the ns755v is the king.

picture seems alittle soft maybe it just me or I may just need to tweak it some more . wish it was built like dvp-n900

well,I'am just like most of you.I read all reviews researched all the avalible dvd players and here's what I found, there is a hugh gap in prices. Most manufacters hit the 300.00 range then jump to 1000.00 range.I know! there are few in between but, very few.My needs where as follows had to be black to match my equip,to be a single disk unit and have progressive scan. This unit fit the bill.one other thing how much better is the picture quality of 1000.00 unit 10% maybe?besides hd-dvd is coming.now to the details when i first hooked it up the picture seemed alittle soft, blury but the sound was very good much better than my older player sony dvp-550s.after I ajusted it with my hometheater tune dvd it looked much better the biggest inprovement was in color saturation colors are down right vivid. Also sacd's sound wonderful great inprovement over cd's,cd's even sound better on this unit my old unit made them sound compressed. dvp-ns755v is a very nice piece of equipment.

Strength:

Sound quality, clarity, imaging on SACD Build quality

Weakness:

Don't know yet

I am a suspicious dude by nature, and I have wondered if either the DVD-A or SACD formats could truly offer more than a good Dolby Digital or DTS track. I have tried a few DVD-A offerings on my Toshiba 9200 plyer and was less than impressed, especially with the insane stupidity of no bass management. I purchased this well-priced Sony unit to see just how good SACD could be, and also because it does offer bass management. Wow....I am impressed! In my humble but well-balanced system, the clarity and imaging were startling from the get-go. The assorted tracks on the sampler disk included with the player were attention-getting. I put in the Turina/Debussy multi-track disk (Telarc SACD-60574) and had a listen. Man, that orchestra was right there! Properly-spaced, with a clarity that I had not heard on CD before. Build quality is very good for a budget unit. The manual is almost comprehensible. I have not had a chance to evaluate the unit's DVD or video capabilities, and I will post another review after I do. If you are looking to explore this exciting new format, I think this is a good choice. Now, if only the record companies will get off their butts and make some more SACD disks! P.S. Remember, folks -- due to the evil and paranoia of the record companies, there is NO digital out on SACD players..only six analog outs that go into your receiver's analog ins. My system: Receiver: Marantz SR-7000 DVD Player: Toshiba 9200 Main speakers: B&W DM602 Center speaker: B&W LCR6 S2 Surround speakers: JBL S36 Sub: M&K MX-70B This particular setup is FANTASTIC in a small room, with sound quality I would pit against systems costing much much more!

A great progressive-scan DVD player that also plays the customary assortment of CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. It is also a multichannel SACD player. NO DIGITAL OUTPUT FOR SACD section ! You can use only the analog RCA connection!! I used digital coaxial cable for the DVD/CD connection to my receiver, and an assortment of analog cables for the SACD connection via the six-channel analog input. enjoy!

Strength:

Great video DAC, great picture, beautiful black faceplate, excellent sound, not too pricey, build quality

Weakness:

Not made in Japan.

I bought this DVD player based on reviews found in this site. Also bought this player to replace the silver dvd player which is also made by Sony (DVP-NS700P), being the only silver in the rows of black electronic gear on my rack looks awkward and an eye sore in my opinion. So, I searched the net for a player with quality in both video and audio, and of course low price. My searched ended with this player. I bought it from B&H Photo for 209.00 + 12.50 shipping and handling. At first, the picture quality was not good, so I let it warmed-up, left it on for two days strait, tweaked and played with the picture mode and wella, it finally got burn-in, the picture quality started to show, it really looks good on cinema 2 with picture mode adjusted. I hooked this player thru component out using an Audioquest YIQ2 with silver plated RCA connectors to Pioneer Elite Pro-720HD. The picture is stunning, it is like you are in a movie theater. I watched Fifth Element in superbit DVD, and I did not see any visible artifacts, but when I watched Unfaithful, I noticed there is a chroma bug when the word Unfaithful appear in red on first part of the movie. You can see the visible streaks on that word, other than that, this player rocks. The gloss black finish is beautiful, it now matches all my gear and I like the blue dot light when you are playing multi-channel. SACD is also wonderful to listen to, I connected this 5.1 via Audioquest sidewinder interconnects to Denon 3801. I don't know, but I still prefer the seven channel in my Denon as far as music is concern. Anyway, I highly recommend this player if your budget is limited.

SACD playback wonderful, rugged build, all the outputs you could need. What a steal for $249.99!

Weakness:

none

I purchased this unit primarily for multi use. It came with 3 SACD demo discs. What a treat SACD is. Smooth and detailed, an improvement over the CD sometime fatiguing brightness. Remote is nice. 2 S video outs, component video and optical and digi outs. The DAC for regular CD's isnt too bad but I use an outboard DAC. The picture is the closest to perfection I have even seen.

If I could get all this with a changer.....okay I'm dreaming at this price.

I needed a progressive scan DVD for my new TV and this one had all the features I wanted. I replaced my Onkyo 6 disc changer with this and I have not regreted it yet. I watched Star Wars episode II through S-video on my Onkyo and then on Progressive with the 755 and was very impressed. This might just be the difference of the video output, but I did a lot of research before buying this DVD (I've had my TV since July and just got the 755 a month ago) and this thing is PACKED with features for it's very affordable price. TV connected to is Mitsubishi WS-73909.
