Just got this unit and the second dvd played (Ronin) I experienced the lip-sync problem. I read about it and thought I could live with it, but i can't to think that any movie would be interrupted by something like this seems a bit unacceptable. CD playback is fine, the picture is superb I have an old Zenith without an s-video connection and even with regular interconnect, the picture was 3x better than any VHS.
If there are any updates on possible fixes pls. post within the next 30days!
Oh, I'm considering the lowly Philips 825 just for the CDR playback ability. I have a friend who makes me custom CDR's of his extensive import collection and my DVD would be the only CD player I'd have. Blockbuster chose this unit to rent at there stores (doesn't say much but haven't heard or read any complaints about lip-sinc).

Sony and all others with lip-sync problems---FIX THY sh**!

Strength:

Output connections, great picture and sound quality when it worked.

Weakness:

Very noisy, audio output troubles, overall performance

I picked up this player for the 5.1 outputs to be able to hear the Dolby Digital soundtracks on my DD ready receiver. My heart raced the first time I heard the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan, but my excitement soon faded when the player froze minutes later. I restarted the disc and it played through just fine, however this would be the first of many problems I had with this player.

When watching a rented copy of Bring It On, the player started it's infamous lip-syncing problems about half way through the movie. It's extremely irratating. I experience at least some form of lip sync problem on over half the movies I attempted to play, plus I encountered a handful of discs where the player would not play the sound at all... including Dead Ringers, The Exorcist (special edition), and Labyrinth.

The player is also very noisy, you can hear the disc spinning from across the room during quieter moments in the movies, to the point where I had a tough time concentrating on the dialog.

In all fairness the player does offer excellent picture and sound quality for a sub $300 player. It could easily be a 5 star player, but I just don't feel it's worth risking your money when you can find similarly equiped models from Toshiba and Panasonic that are a lot more realiable.

Remote,angle view?

I bought this as a open box buy,got a great deal.
But I had not researched any dvd players so I was
a little leary of what I read about. So I played
with it as much as possible and researched other
dvd players. They all have some goods and bads.
for the price I think this is a good bye.
But I have not found one dvd movie that I can change
angels?
No lip sinc problems so far but who cares sony will
up grade for free so why all the fuss.
You CAN GET BETTER DVD PLAYERS BUT YOU GET WHAT
YOU PAY FOR

nice reomote control, picture and sound quality was good

Weakness:

lip-sync problem! also, it did not read all movies.

i bought the 530 for $298 and had the model for two weeks. after only 5 days, i noticed the lip sync problem in the nutty professor and lock stock and two smoking barrels (great movie). i thought about keeping the unit because i thought the picture and sound was good. I called the sony 800 number that i have seen on this cite and spoke to a rep. She told me that there is NO fix to the problem but they are working on it. anyone who says that they have found a fix is mistaken!!
Since this problem became obvious several months ago, i dont think that sony will ever fix it. i think that it would be to costly on that model to do.
On the good side, hitting the stop and play did fix the problem..but what is going to happen 6 months from now?
to keep this product does not make sense.
i returned the sony and bought a denon 2800 for $598, and you can see and hear a difference. the dts is better as well as the 5.1. also has more features. most importantly, it has been trouble free and is a quality piece of equipment.
