HMMM! did'nt expect this from sony. lip-sync,*!@*# guess what did'nt research before buyig. did'nt take me long to return it got a toshiba 3109. i don't know what's in store for me with the 3109. if 3109 does'nt work will try denon 2500. after that hell with dvd's will wait till some of these manufacturer's produce a decent equipment. This is the second sony equip i returned(the other being de835 it sucks too got a DSP-A1). Guys if u r desperate 2 buy a DVD dont spend 2 much $$ on it and definitely dont buy a sony. i hear the higher end sony's are better but guess what i ain't spending that kinda $$ at least not for a sony. I rate this a zero

Great machine if your looking for great picture and sound without spending boocoo bucks. Havent experienced Lipsync problem yet at all. Strength:

Excellent picture, loads quickly.

Weakness:

No component video inputs

Well, I have been using my player for about a month, and I haven't had any lip sync problems (or any other problems) whatsoever. I have watched Ronin and The Matrix, along with other movies and I have not had any problems.
I'm convinced this player is a keeper. My firmware version is 2.10.

I can't give 5 stars because it doesn't have component video inputs, but everything else is great!!

Hrm. Is the DVP 325 the european version of the 330? There is no 330 here and I have no problems with my DVP-S325, at least not with 5th element, where I tried to see that lipsync stuff .. it didn't fall apart. Hrm ... and I have no means of comparing it DVD per DVD with other players... So .. from how I saw it, I give it a 4. 5 is perfect and nothing is perfect :)

Strength:

Product has many good features. Easy to install

Weakness:

Notice lip synch on rare occasions.

I purchased the product 5 months ago and was looking for a very affordable DVD player that would also play CD's. Well for the money I think this player stands out. The player was easy to install. Has that extra set of audio outs that can come in helfful. It plays DVD's very well, even handles fast moving shows like armagedeon well. I have noticed an occassional lip synch but just a quick stop and play of the remote fixes the problem. I heard that Sony had a fix to this problem but I use the DVD player to often to let them have it for any period of time. Over 150 DVD's in our library. Anyway again I say for the money it is a great player.

Strength:

Crisp picture, excellent menus, Good value, screensaver feature. Resume play after stop function

Weakness:

No component out, No zoom

I recently returned my Pioneer 525 and purchased the Sony 330 instead. I was annoyed at the excessive jaggies displayed from the Pioneer. The Sony is definitely the nicest of the three DVD players I have used. Very easy to use. I have had zero lip-sync problems. Beautiful unit. I especially like the optical audio out.

Strength:

Picture, remote

Weakness:

no component video out, puts overall rating down to 4 stars.

Excellent picture for normal DVDs, but a softer picture with anamorphic. Even so, it is smooth with no artifacts, and is pleasing. Handles transition to second layer with only a split second delay. DVDs look as good as I expected them to be.

I have a Sony STR DB835 receiver with Dolby Digital and DTS, so the lack of any decoder on the DVD player is a plus, since I wouldn't use them anyway. Very happy with it. Got it from Crutchfield for $299. Probably could have gotten it cheaper, but I like their return service.

Firmware is version 2.3

Read that a lot of people don't like the remote, but I have no problem with it at all.

Strength:

3 types of output choices. Plays CD Movies. Better Remote than the Toshiba.

Weakness:

I got this to replace my Toshiba SD-2109 which had Firmware problems. I would have preferred another Toshiba 2109 manufactured after Aug 1999 (firmware ver.) They were out of stock so they gave me the Sony, (which cost more) at no extra cost. The Sony would have been perfect if it had Zoom capabilities like the Toshiba.

I got this player to replace the Toshiba SD-2109 I received for christmas. I realy like the features and picture quality of the Toshiba except for Firmware problems when playing some DVD movies (Armageddon, Matrix). I did try to ge another 2109 (manufactured after 08/99) but Best Buy was completely out of stock, apparently this was their best seller! They did feel bad after I showed them the printout from this site regarding the Firmware problems so they took my 2109 and gave me an even exchange for a more expensive Sony DVP-S330D (came out to $213.!)

In all fairness to the Sony, it did have more output choices than the Tosh. (optical especially) but it also did not have a feature a loved it the Tosh. the 4X zoom. It did integrate nicely with the STRV-DE835 I use for the HT and did not detect any of the usual problems I had with the Tosh. when playing movies. I did not detech any lip synch problems either (and hope it stays that way). I also liked the compatibility with CD-R type formats. It will make me eliminate a CD player I have just for this purpose.

For the price $213.00,(Best Buy retail $260) I will rate it as a 5, for the features I will give it a 4 (having the zoom would bring it to a 5+).

Strength:

Good picture clarity

Weakness:

Noisy, weak laser, won't play certain CD-Rs.

I purchased this DVD player in the winter of '99. I loved it, until early in the summer of this year(2000,) I noticed that certain DVDs would not load. So I went through my whole collection (170 movies, mind you), to find out if it was the movies or the player. So, I came to the realization that dual-layered discs were the ones that were no readin correctly. I kept getting a sevice error(C:13:00). Paying that much money for a product, and for that to happens stinks. It seems that Sony is notorius for making a test product with bugs and glitches and they bring it to the market. Then once they finally have a hold on what all the problems are, they make a new and imporved model, then they discontinue the older product. They do it all the time, and that is exactly what happened with this player. It was good while it lasted.
