Love this player. Picture is wonderful. Has dual descrete optical so it uses one laser for the DVD and the other for CD's. Nice so that it doesnt wear out as easy. Highly recommend this unit...

I have had this unit for about a year now and have never, ever, had one single problem with it- no lip sync problems, no layer change problems, nothing can rattle this sucker! With all of the problems I read about with other units (and even the newer Sony ones) I thank God each day for my choice. Yeah, DTS would of been nice, but thats not taking off like I thought it would anyway. Sound and picture are top notch. This unit was an editors choice pick in Home Theater magazine and for good reason- it's build quality, features, and reliability have won my heart.

After months of researching I finally decided on the Sony DVP-S300 and am very happy with my choice. I own a few anamorphic DVDs and the Sony downconverts them excellently. Audio CDs also sound fuller than my existing Sony CD player. Couldn't be happier with my purchase, however, I'm sorry to see this model discontinued.

Great player for the money. I would say it is the best low end model out there. I have been completely satisfied with both video and audio quality. I have not had any problems with any dvd's. Only weakness I have found is that there is no component video out. I would definitely recommend this player to anyone.

Strength:

great pictures, great sound, ease of use

Weakness:

no dts output

for the money, this model and the 330 are the best dvd players on the market....you get a great picture and really good sound quality off of cd's....the unit has two seperate optical lasers, one for dvd's and one for cd's....makes a big difference in sound....you can get the 330 for about 279-299 in most stores now....i havent found a better one until you get up to the 800+ price range....

I still love this DVD player which actually was my first piece of Home Theater equipment. I have used this player on a daily basis since May 98, with absolutely no problems. This model has been discontinued but I would recommend it as a second player in the home, or as a first DVD player for the beginer.

Strength:

No layering or lip sync problems. Easy to use remote. Great picture transfer thru S-Video. Dual lasers which can read CD-R also. Excellent sounind audio CD player.

Weakness:

No DTS (if you care about that pathetic system). A little bit pricey.

The Sony DVP-S300 is an excellent DVD player for anyone with a receiver with an onboard Dolby Digital processor. I have owned the player for 1 year and never had any problems with it. I bought it "open box" so I got an exceptional value.
