Strength:

Price, small size

Weakness:

Remote layout, No support for CD-R/CD-RW

A good entry level DVD player with basic features. A true bargain when found below $150. So far, it has played a variety of DVDs and CDs with no problems (knock wood:). Picture and sound have both been good. The layout on the remote really is terrible though. My thought was that no matter how many features I got today, I would still be forced to buy a DVD-Audio capable unit in the future. So I saved money, while picking up a good future bedroom/portable player.

Strength:

Size, can serve as a mobile unit. many features for a low price.

Weakness:

Not the same reproduction of a top of the line unit.

I will say that for my purposes it is a nice unit. We didn't intend for it to be the main unit in the house. We have a Sony in the living room for that purpose. They cost us $179 each @ Costco. It is small which makes it attractive to be additional house units as households continue to migrate from VCR's to DVD's. We bought one for my kid's room and one to be used as a mobile unit, ie: game room, etc.Their size makes them a good choice for people with RV's, trailers, boats, etc. That is why I recommend them. Their video reproduction and features are better than some more expensive bigger units I have seen. Good enough unit to be a main unit if you don't have a lot space, like with mini componants. I can see other manufacturer's following this product size. It has digital optical and digital cable outlets and s-video / Y,Pb,Pr, outlets. Summed up, okay video quality at a great price. The remote isn't that great but again it isn't the main house unit.

Strength:

Fiber optic Audio Output.

Weakness:

Could not play DVD, "Cruel Intentions", probably due
to a bug in the operational software in the controlling
hardware chips. Has problems on some rental disks.

Fiber optic audio output and S Video output makes this a
serious contender for cheap - but excellent picture and sound quality. Do not expect perfection in it's price
range.

Inexpensive DVD/CD Player that delivers the goods.

Strength:

Sharp

Weakness:

No sharp mind

Bought it at price chopper for $179. Not a bad price for a DVD. Wouldn't recommend to any one. I had problem playing VCDs. It ejects the VCD for no reason. I tried the same VCDs with GE DVD and played OK. Skips CDs. On some tracks while playing CD it will play but no sound. DVD-never notice major problem except the still effect when heats up. I exchanged already once and had similar problem with the 2 ed unit.

Strength:

Price, outputs and size

Weakness:

remote, construction and speed. No cd-r support

I love this player because of the size and price. It do have some bad things. Like the remote is badly desinged and sometime (I think whe the player gets hot) the movie star to skip.
For this price and feature I think this player is excellent!

Strength:

Price, the small size

Weakness:

The remote is small. Could have been a better desing.

I think the earlier reviewer might have gotten a defective unit. My unit works really well. The picture is sharp, the remote works at it suppose to. Skip to where it should skip, forward, fast forward, review: it does all the functions of basic DVD player.

There is nothing fancy about this player but with the price of $130.00 it was a steal and I am very satisfied with it. I saw Shakespeare in Love, Gone with the Wind, The Matrix and three other movies (these are from the cupon that came with the system) they look identical to Panasonic DVD viewing.

Strength:

Small size. Support variety of output format. Good quality.

Weakness:

Can't play some of the VCD

This is a pretty decent dvd player at this price range (I bought it for $130 at mercata!!). You rarely get a player w/ that much features at this price. It support component video out, s-video, digital out and optical out to name a few. Picture quality is sharp and clear. Some people experienced shuttering when playing some dvd but I didn't experienced that, guess that was just a individual case or unclean disc. It's weakness is it can't play certain video cd (not popular in us anyway) and bad remote control layout. IMHO, this is the best dvd player you can get at this price range.

Strength:

small, cheap, good quality

Weakness:

crappy remote, go out and buy a decent one.

just bought it a week ago. but I was able to tell the differance between this a vhs in an instant. The picture is sharp, crisp, and clear. The color is full. And the sound is adequate. And i am sure once i get rid of my old receveir and buy one with dolby digital 5.1, it will be much better heartily recommended!

Strength:

Size, component video out, price.

Weakness:

Flimsy construction, sluggish user interface, problems with several discs

I purchased this model as a gift for my brother. Setup was easy, as expected. The on-screen setup menus were fairly logical, with no major suprises. The remote was about on a par with the Panasonic A120 remote. Not great, not too terrible.

After inserting a DVD to try out the new player, I immediately noticed that the player was slow. Slow to read the disc contents, slow to display the disc menu, slow to navigate through the visible menu elements, and slow to bring up submenus or other selectable items. It felt as if the whole system was wading through a sea of molasses. In January. In Fargo, North Dakota.

Still, the first disc did eventually play. The image, while noticeably softer than that provided by the Panasonic, was watchable. Colors appeared just slightly washed out, but not so much that the average VHS convert would notice.

We weren't so lucky with the second disc we tried. It was Silverado, and it seemed to cause convulsions in the player unlike anything I've ever seen. Ultimately, only the power button would stop it. I can only hope that this was a malfunctioning player, and not representative of a serious design flaw.

Needless to say, we returned the player and exchanged it for a Panasonic, which is another story...
