Price, Matches my DLP TV, Blue light dimmer

Tends to freeze every so often, even on brand new out of the box DVd's. The Blue light is a lil too bright. Slow response from the remote comand.

I got this to match my new Samsung Samsung 50", 1080I DLP. LOL I must admit I mainly got it because the DVD player Matched the casing of my New TV. The Blue light was a nice touch, but I had to dim it, cause at night it draws your eyes to it from time to time.

But after researching it, a bit in the store I noticed HDMI output, and all this hoopla about upconverting oid DVDs to 720p and 1080i rez. Well since it didnt come with HDMI cabels I had some ordered from MonoPrice.com and I think I spent a total of $12 on 3 HDMI cables including shipping. So I had to wait a total of 2 days for those cables to arrive so in the mean time I used some extra highgrade (or so they claim) Component Monster Cable.

I used 3 movies as a visual reference to mesure between the component and HDMI later.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Extended Cut. (an overall visual and DTS audio good disc to test with)


Aliens (2) (a movie Ive watched so many times I know every detail, plus its grainy, I know this going in)


Akira - Digitally Remastered ( a very Sharp, clean, and very Organic cartoon)



After getting the HDMI cables and Testing with component then HDMI I came to the confusion (thats right, not conclusion) That Different Cabels yeild a different signal that I liked more than the other.

Ill start with Akira, Component Did an excellent job of making this remasted DVD look great on my DLP even though it cant do the Hi Rez like HDMI can. The colors seem to be Richer in my personal opinion than the same images using the HDMI cables. When I plugged in the HDMI cable I uped the REZ to 720p then 1080i and the Higher I went, the more imperfections became undeniable. So betwenn the two cables Id give a nod to the Component, it just looked better. And mind you I adjust every visual setting on my samsung TV and DVD player, I even did manual changes too.

Next DVD Aliens (2)
As I said previously this DVD is just Grainy on purpose, James Camron wanted it to look this way, and I love it..........And Ive also watched this Movie a million times over the years. The component was a big upgrade from the standard RCA's I was used to viewing this with on my previous DVD players. The downside to the Componet Vs the HDMI was that anytime there was any fog in the scene, it made stuff kind of blend together. Where as with the HDMI you could tell there was an object behind the fog, rather than a Foggy object (hope that makes sense). Also the Alien walls were in more detail. So I give the Nod to HDMI

Ill just come out and Say that this Disc is Beautiful even with RCA jacks......Component looks great, and in some areas looked better that HDMI (more on that later) I was very pleased in the quality I saw. The HDMI looked even better than component in most of the movie. There is one sport of the movie that it didnt look as good, the Cave/Shelob section. The characters and Shelob looked great, But the fog, and cave walls were all pixeled and generally blocky looking with the HDMI. I dont know if there is something i can do in the settings to help that, but it seemed that it had a problem making the bacground looks good in that scene. But when Frodo held up the Blue Vile,It all looked beautiful again.

All in all the Component looked great compared to my older RCA jack DVD player. The HDMI looks better in most areas, yet there are some areas it makes stuff look pixeled and generally weird looking. But thats minimal.
