Strength:

Good picture if it doesn't skip.

Weakness:

Skips, locks up. It is a bugger.

Bad damn DVD player. I'm not going to waste my time writing about it. Shoddy at best. Criminal of Samsung at worst.

Weakness:

Reliability. Picture freezes and sometimes the player can not read the DVD.

From my experience, this is not a good DVD player. Every movie I have tried to play freezes. It is very sensitive to finger prints on the DVD etc... To get the unit to even recognize some DVDs, I have to clean the disk first. I also have a Marantz DV-7010 and this player is flawless. Anything the Samsung can't play the Marantz handles without a problem. If you are looking to purchase this player, keep away and look elsewhere.

Strength:

absolutely none

Weakness:

this DVD player could not play a Dual-Layered DVD with any kind of consistency.

I received this DVD player as a product replacement from Samsung after an authorized service center was unable to repair a model DVD-907.

The 907 could not deal with Dual-Layered discs. Once the second layer was reached, the player would skip, freeze momentarily or just completely hang up.

I brough the 907 in for a "RAM IC upgrade" which I had to find out about through a great deal of detective work. Samsung agreed to cover this as a warranty repair even though the machine was nearly 2-years old. After a bit of work the service center was unable to repair the player even after the laser pick-up was also replaced (this took over TEN WEEKS to determine).

At first I was pleased and impressed to find that Samsung would replace the machine with a new one - the DVD-812 - until I got it.

First, the remote design is awful. There's a little joystick to manuver through the menus with - extremely flimsy.

Second, the 812 had the SAME problem as the 907!!!! This player could not get through a dual-layered disc at all. I tried 10 different discs - Titan A.E., The Eagles - When Hell Freezes Over, Gladiator, and U-571 to name just a few.

These were ALL NEW DISCS!!!!! I know that there have been some DVD software problems, but there's no way that they were all bad!

So now. . . . the DVD-812 is back in the shop. And this NEW machine is getting the LASER PICKUP REPLACED!!!!

I'm so frustrated with Samsung, the only thing that would make me truly happy would be to get the original $400 that was spent to purchase the previous DVD-907 so I can go out and buy someone else's DVD player!!!!

DO NOT BUY A DVD PLAYER FROM SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd put a ZERO in for the rating, but the web site won't go that low!!!!!

Strength:

MP3

Weakness:

Reliability

DVD player regularly skips, pauses, and just stops on all DVD movies tried. We have tried 10 movies with the same results. This player sucks.

The original product we received would not even load a DVD. We returned it. The replacement did not fare much better. Do not buy this DVD player.

Strength:

Clear picture, lots of features

Weakness:

Unbelievable skipping and freezing, remote was billed as universal, but did not synch with Sony 27" TV (a standard); unit ran hot

I might have just bought a bad unit, but judging from the other reviews, the problems I encountered seem typical. Out of the box, the unit seemed to experience some sort of momentary slippage during the playback of various DVDs. The problem was not on the DVDs, since I immediately backtracked and replayed the ostensible problem areas. The final straw was when playing "The World is Not Enough", the darn thing froze midway through the movie!

I also noted that the unit seemed very hot during playback. The DVDs came out nice and toasty (I'm a novice at this, but toasty DVDs appear indicative of another problem).

The unit also billed itself as having a universal remote, which didn't synch to a 27" Sony TV (a standard in my mind).

On the plus side, when the unit does work, it has lots of neat functions.
