Weakness:

Nothing major

I've only had this player for about 2 months, but I'm not experiencing any problems with it. I'm using the optical audio jack for my sound and it's crystal clear so I can't vouch for the RCA jack outputs except I'm using them for my CD audio...kind of a weird setup, but it still sounds great! The video is clear and looks great! For the $199.95 I paid for it, it was definitely worth it and then some

Strength:

Great value & picture quality is superb!

Weakness:

A little noisy (humming sound) while playing movies.

I picked it up for $199 and thought it would be worth a try. I'm very satisfied with this product so far. If you're on a budget and can't afford the higher end models like me then I definitely think you should give this product a try. Other than the humming noises while playing, I have no complaints with it.

Strength:

Price, free DVD's & rentals.

Weakness:

Grainy audio, bright blacks, occasional chapter change delay.

I chose this player mainly because of the price and the free DVD bundle, which made the player all the cheaper. Three problems that I have with this player are:

1) grainy audio through the RCA ouputs
2) bright blacks. The letter box seems more like 85% gray than black. Word on the street is that this player failed the "blacker than black" test.
3) Some DVD's have a small delay between select chapters. So far I have only noticed this on "The Matrix". Depending on my mood, this can bother me. It is like a nervous twitch that you can control but would really like to get rid of!

When I bought the player I was not expecting anything other than a "rental night" player that could play DVD's. Anything to get away from chewed VHS tapes! Since I am not charging admission to watch movies at my house I am quite satisfied with the purchase.

I have this player hooked through my Aiwa NSX-V90 (black, not the flashy silver of today mini's) w/ Dolby Pro Logic. Besides the grainy audio from the DVD player, I am pleased with this setup. If you are trying to put together an "el cheapo" home theater for the family room this is the component for you. Remember, cheaper does not necessarily mean poor quality.

Sound

I have a Pioneer DV606C that hasn't worked properly since my wife first bought it for me in 98. She paid $599.99 at that time. I ended up having to make repeat phone calls to Pioneer and a slue of letters and they have fixed it over and over again and has not been successful in repairing the deffective unit. I finally broke down and picked up this DVD player because of its price. Other than that I would not have bought it. The picture from this DVD player is excellent. I have watched ANTZ on this DVD as well as my Pioneer when it was working and the RCA beats it hands down. The sound quality though, leaves much to be desired. I have a complete system complete with seperate amps controlling my channels seperately. The Pioneers sound seem to be much brighter. I can say that this DVD player is better than I thought it would be. I planned on returning it once my DVD player was repaired (It has been back and forth in the shop for about three months),butafter using it I have grown attached to its vivid picture and vibrant colors. I give this DVD player 5 stars because it is not very often that you can actually get more than you paidfor. In this case you do get that plus 12 free DVD renatls.

great picture, excellent sound, great entry level player, excellent overall value

Weakness:

I've had a horrible experience with dvd players, thats because I had a 709 by samsung. I did alot of research, and decided to return the pice of junk samsung 709 player, and got my RCA. This player is excellent. It has played all dvds flawlessly, including the matrix. The picture quality this player has is excellent. If you are in a tight budget, this is a excellent, and I do mean EXCELLENT entry level player. So if your considering entering the dvd market, get this player, because it is worth every player. Stay away from samsung 709 player, because you will be wasting your time and money.

Great picture, Sound runs through my Technics receiver.

Weakness:

Shame on me for not doing my homework. I did not realize that it would not play recorded audio CD in CDR format. Manual didn't say anything about CD-RW, but I doubt it.

So far, so good. I am not going to return it because of it's lacking ability for recorded audio CD's. If anyone has figured out any recording techniques to by-pass this issue, please drop me a note. I picked up "Tarzan" DVD for the kids, and I was highly impressed with the clarity of the picture and the sound booming from my stereo system.
This is a great product for the dollar- a very good value.

For the price none...I wanted Componet Outputs but for under $200 I can't complain!

If you are looking for a excellent DVD player get this thing. Bought it at Best Buy yesterday($199) and I am very happy. Hooked it up to my Toshiba 43H95 using the S-Video(which came with the player)and hooked the TOSLINK cable to my ONKYO reciever. Then I proceeded to play THE MATRIX and SOLDIER and let my say the Picture and Sound ROCKED. A ++.Wow. No problems that i've read so much about with other players costing much more. The best part is that I get 5 DVD movies and 13 Rentals Free with this coupon making the overall cost of the Player under $100. Well done RCA for setting a excellent balance of price and features. You can't go wrong unless your a nit picky Audiophile that looks for this thing to do everything a $500 + unit to do. Give me a break.

DVD'S GET STUCK

I had this dvd player for 4 months, and used it less than 10 times before a dvd got stuck in it. The tray wouldnt open and it kept making an awful noise. Couldn't even turn it off, had to unplug it. Seems like its made pretty cheap. Overall...crappy and not worth saving a few bucks.
