Strength:

Nice player menu. Respectable MP3 menu. Parental controls. Lock-up feature. Component Video Out. S-Video out. Good accurate Coaxial and Optical outputs. Clean looking. Appealing to the eye.

Weakness:

No Progressive scan. Loading Tray makes a clunk noise when opening. Remote is rather laughable.

I have baught this DVD player at sears. This DVD Player is nice and clean looking. Plays MP3, CD-R, CD-RW, Mpeg file CD's (photoview), S-VCD, VCD and normal audio CD's. As someone said before me that it couldn't read folders for MP3's, yes it can. While it may not have progressive scan. It still is a good player. Clean Menus, 0.0008% homonic distortion Coaxial output. 0.0004% for the Optical port. Again, this DVD player is very clean looking and has nice "feet". I find that it is appealing to the eye. The loading tray when ejecting has a somewhat of a clanking noise. It can make some think that there is something wrong with the unit. But this normal, maybe not normal on other DVD players, but on this one it is... The remote is really weird. This was my first complaint when I got it home. I don't like the big clunky audio volume and chapter buttons. A slimmer remote would be nice. This is a good beginner dvd player.

Strength:

Price, picture is acceptable, sound is ok

Weakness:

Silly beeping sound effect when ejecting disc, mp3 menus is really useless, Im taking it back because of this, it doesnt show separate folders of different albums you have to fast forward to a track no. like 204 to get into the disc

Price as above in nz dollars, so that makes it about US130, Just a quick review, looks good, good price, has mp3, svcd, vcd, dvd.

Strength:

The player's appearance is top-notch, with an expensive silver look for a $100 machine. The picture is solid and true, with rich colors. I like having a zoom feature, and this one works well at up to 4x. This is even a photo-compatible unit, which will read your j-peg images saved to a CD-R or CD-RW. A built-in slide show program works well, but I have since learned that you don't need this feature since most DVD players made today read VCD's, and you can save your digital pictures to CDs in VCD format using software such as NERO Express or 5.5. It's really easy to do, and the pictures on the screen turn out BETTER than the j-peg images. They also draw onto the TV screen instantly, which beats the RCA player taking 5 second to draw each j-peg image. So, you don't need to buy a player that's photo-compatible as long as it plays VCDs.

Weakness:

The remote is cheesy and cheap looking, with all the important buttons either too small, or located in an inconvenient place on the remote. The fast-forward and reverse is slow, only going up to 16x normal speed, compared to 100x to 200x seen in similarly priced models. The DVD tray, while feeling solid, makes a squeeking noise when ejected a disk, which isn't comforting. Finally, while the sound worked well in most instances, I tried Lord of the Rings last night and was getting a crackling noise in the background. I'm not sure if it's the hardware or the software, so I'm going to try it on the other DVD player I have here at home, an old Panasonic DIVX/DVD player.

I've beeen researching DVD Players for a couple weeks on the internet, needing a good low-priced unit for my bedroom. While I considered progressive scan, I felt it was not needed yet since I don't own a digital TV yet, and my bedroom set is a Sony 20-inch WEGA. So I focused on non-progressive players. I picked the RCA 220-N, purchased it at Wal-Mart for $99, and set it up three nights ago. My initial overall impressions are favorable, but I do have a few reservations. A great picture but a cheesy remote and a potential problem with the sound noticed.

I've only had my old Panasonic DIVX/DVD unit, which works fine after several years of moderate use. The advancements in features over the last few years is obvious, even with these $100 machines such
