Strength:

good dvd-a,you can turn off the video when player music

Weakness:

cheap build,poor SACD

If your looking for a dvd-a that plays SACD(and not that well) then this is the player for you.Unfortunately I have been running a dedicated SACD player & tried to move into universal but found this player not up to my standards. It's a good player for dvd-a but SACD isn't it's strong point.Hopefully the company that I got it from will have a return policy.

Strength:

Slim footprint Plays all formats Comprehensive and easy to understand manual Superior video and audio for the price

Weakness:

Remote is not backlit

Bought this player a couple of months ago for its versatility. I have tried SACDs, DVD-As, and MP3s as well as the usual DVD, CD-R, CD-RW discs. This player does it all. Video quality is excellent and it sends the audio data stream or signal to my receiver flawlessly. I probably should have waited for the price to come down to $300 but I just couldn't resist. I do agree that the build quality is not what it could be for the pricetag but most folks would probably be excited if Pioneer added a 20lb. lead weight in the player just to make people "think" it is a great player. I, on the other hand feel that the technology in this player is top notch for its price. Pioneer using state of the art chip sets for this unit and it shows. Chips are not heavy therefore quality doesn't have to be in heft. I have the following set-up Yamaha RX-V1000 15+ yr. old Onyko 100watt stereo integrated amp (used for back center channel) Panasonic PV-VS4821 S-VHS 36" Proscan Monitor Pioneer DV-45A DVD Player Pioneer PD-F1039 300+1 CD Changer Sony TC-WE825 Tape Deck Sony MDS-JE520 MiniDisc Player/Recorder Technics Turntable Monster Power Conditioner (2500 model) Front Speakers: EPI Tower (EPI is long gone as a company) Rear Speakers: Boston A60s Center Speaker: Inexpensive KLH Rear Center speaker: Inexpensive KLH Subwoofer: Velodyne Cabling: All Monster Cable

Strength:

Plays any disc you care to throw at it,2 year Elite warranty, setup is fairly easy.

Weakness:

Very flimsy build quality, limited bass management, remote is not back lit.

I bought this player for it's ability to play just about any format out there, whether you have sacd's,dvd audio discs or dvd's(and dvd r,no less). (Ironically,it also plays mp3's,as if anyone buying this player would care.) The sound quality is excellent on sacd's and dvd-a,has a much more open and detailed midrange than a standard cd.(Although it's not as good as vinyl,it's close.) Dvd video quality is as good as I've ever seen in interlaced mode.(An HDTV is next on my list.) Setup is easy,I had it hooked up and playing in 15 minutes. Disc access is fast(one of the reasons I like Pioneer). Now for the bad..... I've seen entry level players with better build quality, the tray is especially flimsy.(thankfully there is the 2 year warranty for Elite products)There is no digital output when playing sacd's and dvd audio. The remote is not backlit.
