Strength:

DV-655A (Asia version) - DVD-audio& SACD also plays MP3 - 10bit/54khz video - Pure cinema Progressive scanning - 540 line focus - Virtual Dolby Digital enhancement for 2 ch audio - 2 S-video output compared to DV-656A 1 S-video - Stylish design

Weakness:

- availability of DVD-audio & SACD (Philippines) are very little. - Wish the remote has a backlit functionality - No earphone but the receiver has it.

I owned the sister of DV-656A the DV-655A with the SACD compatibility. What I can say the best DVD player I've own so far. Great sound reproduction for a player thats fits the budget. I've got the SACD compatibility coz Im from Asia, the only problem is that is that I have no media it aren't available yet here in the Philippines. I,ve also tested the DVD-audio capability, and I say how crystal clear it is! On video I haven't got an in-depth review on it, for I owned a non-progressive TV so I haven't tested the progressive functionality of the machine. But the colors are true & rich and also have less-artifact compared from other players.

Strength:

Plays virtually all types of media. Many features for the money!

Weakness:

Havent found one yet.

I just bought this unit and am extremely plesed with it. Not only did B & H photo ship it quickly, but it arrived in one piece and works perfectly. I have a older 32" Sony that does have a S video port and using this, the picture is superb! So far the unit has played all forms of media that I have without a skip or error.

Strength:

Great sound. Great price. Easy to learn On-Screen-Menus and remote. Nice cosmetics & easy-to-read display....and I LOVE the silver color!!

Weakness:

No SACD playback (unlike it's "sister" version-the DV-655A). Remote doesn't control TV or receiver volume like my Sony DVP-NS700P.

When I learned that Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" was coming to DVD Audio in March 2003, I decided to finally invest in one of the new 6-channel audio formats. I found a great deal waiting for me with the new Pioneer DV-656A player. Being that I use this machine mainly for audio-only playback, I can't say much about DVD Video quality but for DVD Audio and CD playback, it sounds wonderful. It has a rich, warm sound on every CD I throw at it and the DVD Audio discs I play are nothing short of impressive to say the least. If you're looking for a cheap way to sample DVD Audio, this is your player.

Strength:

Weakness:

My Philips Pronto remote has still to learn the codes. Anybody there at remotecentral ?

Great ! Very good sound en video. I used almost all of the connections to my Marantz 7000 series A/V. Digital optical output, 6 channel analog en 2 channel analog en s-video, because the Marantz hasn't got components input (sadly). Price paid in euros. Crital clear dvd playing on my 36" Philips crt tv.

Strength:

Great Picture and better sound then my old Sony 5 disc CD Changer which I paid over $400.00 when new.

Weakness:

None that I can think of except I am not a big fan of silver components.

This is my first DVD player. I have demoed very expensive units such as the Arcam which listed for $1600.00 I must say it isn't as nice as the Arcam but for the money is a great piece. This replaced my VCR and a 5 Disc Changer. I am happy with the performance thus far and seems to have all the features i would need. I am using this with a Panasonic flat screen so I really cant be to critical about the picture quallity due to the limitations of my TV.

Strength:

Excellent picture in progressive scan mode with no visible artifacts in the picture. Very good audio with the right setup.

Weakness:

Interlaced video quality is average. Not recommended for those without a DTV or HDTV.

Best Progressive scan DVD I have bought. Been through 3 already, a sony, samsung and panasonic. Great picture when in progressive scan mode on a HDTV, no visible artifacts. Average for video quality when in interlaced mode. Great buy for only $199.
