Strength:

Region Free. Value for money. Has all the necessary features like DTS, Dual-voltage and multisystem. Can play video CD's.

Weakness:

Menu's are confusing and are intuitive, takes a while to

figure out.

I intended to buy a Pioneer DV606D initially but chose this.
I am very happy with this unit. The audio sounds great and the picture output is good. I needed a multisystem capable player and found one without having to shell out an exorbitant amout

Well, i just bought this fantastic DVD player from overseas and have had it for almost 3 weeks now. I'm just using through a normal Dolby Pro Logic Amp and the sound is still very clear. I can't wait to get my RXV-995 for the DD and DTS decoding. This player is an upgraded version of the DV-505.
This player has a 24bit/96khz, Dual Optical pickup (able to playback CD-R), DTS and Dolby Digital Outputs. I managed to pick up this player for less than $800US........when i came back to melbourne, the player is $1100US or $1800AUS.

For anyone out there who has a DVD player, Use the S-VIDEO connector, the picture quality will increase by at least %50.......even more.

The remote for this player is just basically the average remote. I would highly recommend this unit if your willing to have DTS as your future sound!!!!

The player is pretty good for the price. 24/96 ad converters, DTS out, virtual dolby surround, region free are some of the few features that exist. At just under $600 this playes is a good machine. I would have given this player 5 stars but for the following problems: (1) The sound is clear and clean like you'd expect from a higer priced dvd player but is a bit tinny in nature while playing audio cd's (dvd's sound ok). My pioneer ld player gives a much warmer sound on the cd section. (2) The functions on the remote are terribly laid. It takes a while to really know how to work this player. But again, if only dvd playing is your reason for buying this player, at this price due to the features and sound quality i give it 5 stars. Overall i gve it 4 stars. I forgot, it plays vcd's pretty well to with excellent sound just like ld and reasonably good picture quality.

This player is available in Singapore for about US$300 now, its price has dipped quite a bit as there are plenty of new models coming out in the next few months. Represents excellent value for money at this price and even at its original price of $450. The picture quality is almost comparable to the higher end DV717 and its digital outputs streams out a 24/96 signal... very nice. Has a twin laser pickup which enables to read CD-Rs which are typically low reflective. DTS recordings are recognised and played properly. Only drawback is its rather simplistic remote control which have rather unresponsive keys. Apart from that, this thing is a fantastic buy for its price and host of features.

I am interested in this model. The price is higher than most entry/mid level machine
that comes without built-in dobly digital decoder.
In Malaysia , it retails for about USD 530 or less.

I have read that some digital output
(ie thru coaxial or optical) on DVD players actually downsample
96khz/24bit to 48khz/16bit before output the digital signal.

Does this applies to Pioneer DV-515?

I bought this DV-515 2 weeks ago. I used it both for music CD and DVD. The first thing I found about it is that my music CD now have much more details than it used to have on my old CD player. For the pictures sure is much better than VIDEO or VCD but since I never tried other DVD player I can not say much about it. The cool thing about it is that it is multicoded player. For the price I paid and the quality of the sounds itself I'll give it a FIVE for DVD players below 600 USD.

Got this baby here in Singapore for around US $400. I never want to watch anything on VHS, VCD or LD ever again! Super clear and crisp both audio and video. Finally picked this one over the Sonys cos it was multicode (or code-free) and has DTS out. A great value and a must have for all home theater enthusiast.

Can anyone tell me where I could buy this awesome DVD player for a good price in Singapore?? I may need to establish contact with them from here in Tokyo so that I may pick it up during my next trip there!
I would also be interested in knowing what your experiences have been with this set.. Thus far, I have auditioned this DVD player in Toyo and I was quite impressed by it!

Cheers!

Strength:

Plays both dvd and audio-cd`s very well. Plays dvd`s from all regions. Plays Video-cd and cd-r.

Weakness:

A bit noisy, which is a little annoying when playing at low levels

I won this player in a contest about a year ago and I must say that I am very satisfied with it. I watch a lot of movies and the sound is just great. I use it togehter with Harman/kardon avr 35, Dali 606, Dali sc-7 and some other cheap rear-speakers. The sound with audio cd`s is also very nice

Strength:

Great Picture + Sound and Mutliregional Player. Will play CDR,VCD. Looks great , Can turn off LED display.

Weakness:

Bad Menus , Clumsy Remote Control Design , Noise level from the DVD drive can vary between LOUD and ok.

Overall this is a great DVD player for the beginner , especially as it will be very cheap nowadays. Sure it has flaws but they are overall minor.

The remote control buttons are small and not very well laid out, try navigating a menu in the dark ... impossible (even after a year).

The only reason I would replace this unit is because of its (sometimes) loud noise it plays when running a film.
