Strength:

Simplistic and stylish appearance. Excellent video and audio quality.

Weakness:

Remote buttons too crowded and cheap looking.

The best single DVD player on the market! I have this unit for about six months now and have no problems whatsoever. It plays all kinds of CDs including VCD, CD-R and CD-RW. The only two brands that can play the CD-R and CD-RW are the Pioneer and Philips. However, the Pioneer players are superior to Philips in all quality attributes. The previous person who warned people not to buy this unit was biased in his opinion and I think he might have had a bad unit. The other guy who gave a one star with bright and dim problem might have a cable connection problem. In my opinion, the sound of this unit is warm and clear and have a lot of depth. As to the video part, it plays all the scratched DVDs without any problems. Great job, Pioneer.

After reading all the reviews on DVD players and seeing how good the reviews for the Pioneer DV525 and DV333, I finally decided to buy the DV333 and I have no regrets.

Though this is my first DVD player I must say that I am very impressed.

The picture quality is outstanding, options for a player at this price point is great, and the sound (I am using the optical output that is hooked up to a Kenwood reciever that has a built in Dolby Digital/DTS) is GREAT!

I have thrown every format that the Pioneer promises to play (DVD, VCD, CDR, CDRW, and CD) and it has performed without a flaw.

I must thank all the previous reviewers for their comments because it lead me to a purchase that I am very satified with.

Two last things I must mention. I have read numerous complaints about the remote control and the tray noise. Well I have to agree that the remote isn't "Great" but it does the job. To the matter of the tray noise, well I have only noticed any noise when I have put my ear right next to the DVD player and I won't be doing that when I watch DVDs anyway! What I am saying is that from my experience I have found no unusually load noises coming from the DVD unit when it is playing.

Strength:

Excellent picture; razor sharp images and very good color.

Weakness:

None that I have seen

Overall, this is an outstanding DVD player. I tested it against all of the above, and this is he winner. The picture is not too soft like the Sony, and the colors a bit better than the Panasonic. Sharpness is second to none, as well.

Strength:

Price, Ability to play CD-R/CD-RW, 96K 24 bit DA converter, Picture and sound quality.

Weakness:

Looks and feels cheap

I almost bought the Sony S360 until I read the reviews here.
I looked at it at Best Buy but I was quick to dismiss it after I picked it up. WOW is it light, You would think there is nothing in the case at all! And it even looks a bit cheap. But once you get past that, (mine sets on top of my TV along with about 50 lbs of other equipment so maybe it's a blessing? and who is going to be looking at the unit once you turn it on and set down to watch a movie)
You will see that it's strenghts far out weigh (get it:) it's faults. Not only can it play CD-R's it can even play CD-RW's and here is an example of why I like that feature so much, I wanted to here Stevie Ray Vaughn's cold shot so I loged onto Napster to get the mp3 and then converted it and sent it to the CD-RW with out having to fill up a whole CD-R.
Wow that was cool, If I don't like the way it sounds on my big system I can dump it and get something else.

Anyway I have read many reviews saying the SONY has a softer picture and this one even has 3 picture modes you can play with but standard is just fine.

I just wish the Pioneer looked and felt like the SONY and you would have a perfect 5 easy!

Strength:

play all format including the CD I burned at my home. play SVCD which I ripped from DVD.

Weakness:

remote key is too small and hard to read.

The reason I purchase is the price and the ability to play all format. I have conversed some my favorite DVDs to SVCDs which almost have the same quality as the DVDs. overall it is an excellent player and you will love it.

Strength:

Fantastic Video! Common sense menus. Fantastic Sound. Optical inputs. Handles DTS well.

Weakness:

None.

For this price you really can't beat this player. I am a very picky shopper. It doesn't have the zoom feature that some like, but why on earth would you ever need that to watch a flick?

Strength:

Plays everything, enough hook-ups, great picture

Weakness:

If I have to pick one, the remote is not the best-but with Universal's who cares?

I bought this player at Christmas after using this guide to narrow the field. I went to various electronics stores which I trust and asked the sales people at each store which models were the best for entry level. At every store the DV-333 was among the top 3. People had complained about it being loud, but I have no complaints, and I have never had it freeze once. Great value for your money!

Strength:

Plays everything you throw at it( CD R, CD RW )
Optical, Component Outs to connect to high end systems
DTS compatible
functions well with univeral remotes

Weakness:

Ugly looking I guess
No zoom if you are into that

I've had the Pioneer 333 player for about 7 months and got it at Best Buy for $200 when the were typically going for $250 at the time. Now you see them for sub $200. I think this is a great player, and is a huge value. It will play every format(haven't tried VCD, but I'm sure it will play), it has all the needed outputs to hook into your home theatre and TV. I've seen an RCA player and a Sony player(360) and this is just as good if not better. It doesn't have a zoom feature, which is the only thing that it doesn't have.

Overall I wouldn't hesistate to recommend this product to anyone....and would strongly endorse this product if this was your first dvd player, you can't go wrong.
