Strength:

It worked well for the first couple of months and was reasonably priced compared to other DVD players in the market.

Weakness:

Not reliable for playing DVDs. Not a longterm piece of equipment. Not worth $149.00 for how long it lasted.

I purchased this DVD player in August 2001. Less than six months later, it began making a high pitched grinding noise and a few seconds after I would hear the noise the DVD player would either skip or freeze up or both. I have had this piece of junk for over a year now and have not been able to watch a single DVD completely through without this occurance. Phillips is typically a good brand so maybe I just got a dud or something.

Strength:

There are a lot of strengths. It is a high quality unit and has all of the audio/video outputs available for a less price than most DVD players with the same connections.

Weakness:

A little bit bigger than some units.

This is a great unit. It has all of the connections that is available to a DVD player at a low cost, which is the reason I purchased it. The picture and sound quality are outstanding. I have watched many movies on it and I am totally satisfied.

Strength:

- Great image and sound quality - also good for CD''s - takes CD-R and CD-RW and (S)VCD - nice price - easy handling - comfortable and good working remote

Weakness:

- ugly - build quality - display looks cheap

Firs of all, this unit got the Philips DVD622 number in Europe (or at least in Holland it did but i''m almost sure it is) Well I think this is a great machine! Easy to use with nice menu''s. Image and sound quality both are excellent. It even takes the most scratched CD''s / DVD''s. It''s also a quality CD player. And the noisy part: I can''t deny this. True, but I''ve got it in a closet so I never hear it. And I always play at loud volumes. :) The only thing that really bothers me is that when you''ve got a DVD with multiple-angles the @%$!@$ pictogram wont go away! That''s annoing. Especially with the Metallica S&M DvD which has at least 10 track with MA.

Nice unit so far- Mine hasn''t been noisy, and I like the ease of use. Picture good, sound quality fine. I find it perfectly adequate for a mid-priced unit.

Strength:

Easy to use. Full set of outputs including coax & optical sound. Lots of features.

Weakness:

After six months of use, the player got to where it would freeze up after playing for about 90 minutes. Very slow response when picking choices from DVD menus (e.g., scene selection or language).

This works well but I will never buy another low-end Phillips product again. It is the first home audio product that I have ever had that actually died within the first year. (I have been buying audio equipment of various sorts for 30 years.) It has seen relatively light use but is now unusable after only six months.

Sound and picture quality was good, though. Set-up was easy.

Maybe I just got a bad unit. But with a warranty of only 90 days followed by 9 months of "mail it back and we will return it for a fixed price" (and the fixed price is not specified in the owner's manual), I am going to simply replace it.

Strength:

easy to operate

Weakness:

noisy

Needed a low range dvd player for college tv, not an enthusiast. Video quality and such were good, but machine is very noisy at times, not to be used in a small room.
