Strength:

Ease of use, Small size, Portable

Weakness:

Larger screen gives more pixelated picture than the 5" screen.

Although I like the unit a lot, I wanted to comment on the LV55 vs LV75. I just rented the LV55 and took it to Europe. I was truly amazed at the picture quality.. it looked like 3D to me in many areas (U571). I was waiting for the LV75 to be delivered during this time. I spend 7 great days with the 55. My 75 arrived and I was a little disappointed in the screen, being larger, is shows the pixels more than the 5" LV55. This is to be expected, but I was really impressed with the 55 - A LOT, and this is not easy for me to be this impressed. The 75 has a good picture, but it's the difference in HDTV (LV55) and an SVideo (LV75) viewed picture - to me. Maybe I have something set wrong, but I don't think so. For you guys that have the 75, take a look at the 55 if you can. See if you don't see what I'm talking about. I got this unit for a good price, but I'm still considering the LV55 - you sit close anyway.. and the picture on the 55 was really amazing.

Strength:

Size, Picture Quality, Battery life, Built in decoder.

Weakness:

Very few. Small size means it gets dropped a lot. Menus and onscreen displays are non-intuitive.

Excelent DVD player. Portability is a bonus.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality; nice viewing angle. 7" screen is so much better than 5". Nice size/shape/finish. Battery life as advertised (approx 4 hours). Battery "couples" to the DVD player base with no wire connectors; great. Remote is thin and very light; easy carried in top pocket, eg. Hooks up to TV easily with line/phono connectors or S-Video. Virtual Surround Sound (VSS) gives good effect, esp with headphones on. If you travel frequently, highly recommended. Seen many reviews of other portable units where battery gets very hot. This one gets warm only.

Weakness:

Only pain is with the onboard controls. 2 dual-function buttons - one for rewind/previous scene, and one foreward/next scene. For scene, press button once. For rew or fwd, press-and-hold. Many times I've done a press/hold to (eg) rew, then intended to do same again for faster rew, but accidentally just pressed it and found myself at the start of the scene again. Otherwise, I haven't found any other problem.

Highly recommended. My first portable unit and a tremendous experience. My girlfriend bought it for my birthday from Fry's (California) at their retail price of $1,300. I saw it online for $926 and to my great surprise (if you're familiar with Fry's) went in to return the unit and they matched the price with no questions.

Strength:

CRYSTAL-clear picture, nice clean case design,4 HOUR battery, battery design(player sits on top of battery with NO visible wires, terrific sound thru earphones or headphones, did I mention the CRYSTAL clear picture?

Weakness:

Price,the dvd compartment door

I bought this product a few months ago from a store in NY for only $1081 that's with tax. This player is FANTASTIC,sharp clean picture, slim profile and portability. It fully charges in about 3 1/2 to 4 hrs.

I love this thing to death I use it almost everynight going home on the bus.It sounds great thru a pair of headphones even earplugs!

The one very minor drawback for me is the way the dvd compartment door was designed.Instead of making a simple little door, they made it so that the whole thing flips up along with the control buttons.I think that the design would've been a little cleaner if the buttons didn't swing up with the door.

But like I said....It's a very minor gripe, along with the price!

Strength:

Excellent screen clarity, long battery life, lightweight, has video in and outputs.

Weakness:

None

I did quite a bit of research on the portable dvd players and the Panasonic came out with flying colors. Your eyes just don't lie to you. If you compare other LCD screens from Sony (what's with the graininess), Pioneer (not bad, but has limited viewing angles and lowering pixels), Aiwa, etc. to the Panasonic, you'll walk out without a doubt agreeing that the Panasonic is far superior to the rest. If you think about it, they should be. It's their third generation portable DVD player.

To simply put it the sharpness, resolution, contrast and viewing angle of Panasonic's LCD is just incredible. The Sony has a beautiful design; however, at times the picture just looks downright grainy. I wanted to get the Sony because of how compact it was, but the picture quality just drove me away. Even the guy who sold me the Panasonic told me it has the best resolution of the bunch. No, he certainly didn't rip me off. For those of you who travel to either Japan or Hong Kong should pick up one, because unlike stores in the U.S. who charges us from $1000.00 to $1300.00 + tax, the foreign market is ridiculously cheap at around $750.00 for the unit (no tax). Not only that, but the foreign unit (you gotta remember to ask them) is chip modified to play ANY DVD in the world. It's an all region portable machine. What more can you ask for? The weird thing is that, they sell the player and the battery separately (the theory is most Asians use it as a portable TV and DVD player for home use), but if you don't want the battery, it would cost you $150.00 less, so $600.00.

Yeah, you're taking a chance buying from a foreign country, but I was in Japan for a month, and they do have return policies. I just cranked up the puppy every night and fortunately, my first unit crashed and I exchanged it for a new one. No problems from then on, just pure DVD pleasure.

Lastly, the cool thing about this unit is that it has a Video input also, which means that you can watch TV on it (there's no portable tuner that I know of), VCR, LD. It's gonna be tough to beat out Panasonic in this market because they've been at it for so long. The same thing goes for portable LCD screens in car audio. Forget the Alpine, Sony and the rest. Just check out Panasonic's and you'll be amazed.

Strength:

7" Screen that works great under sunlight, Thin Lithium Battery, DTS decoder built in

Weakness:

Extra Batteries are expensive!

I had no idea that the DVDLV75 would be that much of an improvment over the old DVDL10, the screen is bigger, the battery last longer, connects to the bottom of the unit without needing a wire plugged into the unit from the battery.

This battery DOES last four hours, I can usually watch two movies on the plane with this unit.

The inclusion of the DTS decoded is GREAT, now you can use this unit to listen to DTS CDs thru the headphones, although thru headphones you won't get true 5.1 sound you do get sweeping music.

I just wish the extra batteries were not $200!!!

Strength:

Thinnest portable DVD player with 7" anamorphic 16:9 display.
Battery really lasts 4 hours.
Plays CD-R
Smooth horizontal filtering when playing anamorphic 16:9 material.
cool feature : composite video in setitng to use monitor as an output device for things like digital cameras/camcorders when a laptop is not available.
Very bright screen.
Shock resistant. video playback in a car does not skip when going through potholes.

Weakness:

Player gets hot after a few minutes.
Does not play MP3 CDs
No vertical filtering when scaling up non-anamorphic 16:9 material.
Square pixels when playing anamorphic materials requires horizontal scaling.
No SVHS video input to monitor.
The battery pack is heavy and expensive (but is still one of the thinnest out there)

Must say I enjoyed this player more than I expected. In theory, the tiny 7" screen is more suitable for use during travel, but I find that I will use it sometimes at home instead of the other players when I'm watching anamorphic material just because it is neat and won't bother anyone else.

Getting a headphone means that you could watch that movie in bed without bothering your spouse.

I tried it with the video system in my SUV and it plays flawlessly even when we hit big potholes.

The only four things an improved version can include that I can think of are :
1. Support of MP3 CDrom playback. This would have been an ideal feature to have.
2. Playback of non anamorphic 16:9 material allows changing monitor mode to scale it full screen, but there is NO vertical filtering/interpolation that makes the image pixelated. This effect is so unpleasant that I stopped watching non-anamorphic materials ont this unit.
3. The battery pack is HUGE which destroys the advantage of the tiny thin main unit. (Note that the battery for the Pioneer 7" is twice as thick)
4. What gives? This player gets very hot when placed on one's lap. You need to put it on a pillow if you want to watch it in bed. But many desktop units play even hotter, so this is standard for dvd players.

But overall, I like this unit overall. Definitely a fun toy to use when travelling. I'm seriously considering getting a 2nd unit as a permanent addition to our SUV's audio-video system.
