Strength:

Good sound, good picture, OK remote

Weakness:

None that I've encountered

I've had my Panasonic A310 since March 1998 and have had absolutely no problems with it. I suppose there have been times when it has paused momentarily during the movie, but it wasn't distracting enough to make me concerned. It sounds like Panasonic has poor quality control, so if you're lucky, you'll get a good model. Still, I have to give mine five stars.

quality, service

Everyone,

just return the damn item back. I had to return the item twice and even Best Buy got pissed. If you return, they loose money because they have to pay compensation fees to Best Buy and other department stores.
Only way to change their attitude about their product, their loosing money.

Strength:

When it works, the sound and picture are awesome!

Weakness:

The problems that I have encountered with this player are similar to the other reviews. The player worked very well for about 10 months. During that time I was consistently impressed with both the picture and the sound. Gradually, certain DVD's in my collection began to pixelate, skip, and freeze. The problem progressed until I finally had to break down and call Panasonic. The warranty by this point only covered parts, and I had to pay an $89 fixed labor fee. I paid the fee, got the player fixed, and a week later the problems started again. Again, I called the Panasonic repair center, and they apologized. However, the repair person shared an interesting bit of information. He told me that Panasonic is aware that they are having problems with their DVD lenses, and this problem is not necessarily specific to the 310. Also, the repair person told me that he has personally serviced over 200 units, and a handful of them needed to be reserviced within the first month of being repaired. He gave me a song and dance that all DVD companies are having similar problems. I don't know if that statement is accurate or not, but it sure seems like a hell of a lot of DVD players that bear the Panasonic name are having problems. As for all the people on this site that are giving their players positive reviews...it's just a matter of time, folks!

I cannot recommend that anyone purchase a Panasonic player. The repair person I spoke with told me to give him a chance to make me happy with their product. I wish them all the very best of luck to achieve that feat!

I dont understand all the negative reviews of this player. I have had my 310 for well over a year and it just keeps getting better. I have the unit hooked up to a Kenwood VR 209 receiver and it still rocks. I am using the Energy Take 5 speakers and have really enjoyed the sound. I would buy this player over again.

Strength:

This unit excels at downconverting a 16x9 image down to 4x3.
The built in 5.1 decoder is also good.

Weakness:

Some of these units have had problems with layer changes and audio drop-outs. My unit has not had any problems on any discs other than A Bugs Life which the layer change on that took about 6 seconds.

The Panasonic A310 was one of the better players on the market last year. Seeing all the options available today I would choose something a little less expensive. MOst of the options on the unit I never use.

I wouldn't spend the extra $100-150 just for the Dolby Digital decoder. As for the picture it's very good.
I own a 53' Sony RPTV and on the 16x9 enhanced DVDs I barely notice any artifacts or anything. To see just how good the picture can get put in the CC of Armageddon.
WOW!!!!!
This unit passes both a Dolby Digital and DTS signal along.
It has component outputs and optical/co-axial audio outputs.

This player is a steaming pile of crap. It worked for about 5 months, then I had the same problems as everyone else who has posted on this site. Panasonic customer service is lacking any "customer service." It seems that they know about the problem, but don't care to do anything about it.

so, what am I going to do? boycott panasonic of course...i'm going out to buy my new SONY dvd player right now.

Strength:

Excellent remote, easy to use, with jog shuttle. Clear, sharp picture.

Weakness:

None that I can see, although this is the only DVD player I've owned.

Although I've read about the nightmares others have had with this deck I've owned my Panasonic 310 for over a year now and have had no problems whatsoever and every DVD has played fine. It has an excellent remote, easy to use, with jog shuttle features. Picture is clear, sharp. I have no complaints.

Strength:

Mega Features, nice remote, 5 channel output.

Weakness:

The same as eveyone else, does not recognize DVDs.

Your probaly reading these reviews because of 1 of the three following reasons. 1. You want to buy a DVD player and are thinking about the A310. 2. You unit is starting to do what it does to the other 75% of people reviewing this product. 3. Your looking for a way to get away from the cost of repair. Well, I got a answer for you!! Ready? (In order) 1. DON'T BUY THIS UNIT. 2. Return it if you can! If not, try to get in for repair if your within the 90 day period. You say nothing is wrong with it? I'd send it in anyway.. why take a chance. Look at the reviews yourself. Yes, there is a one year warranty.... on parts - not labor. How much to look at your unit if bought after 90 days but before 1 year? 89.95 plus your shipping expense. Who knows after that. 3. Now the important part... I talked to AUTUMN (manager) at the 888 number in the back of the owners manual and got 1/2 off the cost. I know it's not much, but hey I was lucky to get that! Now that I have seen this site, I'm going further with this. For all I know, this is a Panasonic scheme to make more $$$$. Feel free to email me if you have questions!!!! - kgornek@usxchange.net -

Strength:

Video and sound quality.

Weakness:

Remote is not user friendly.

I must admit that I am shocked after reading these reviews. But, I must report that I must be one of the lucky ones. I have only had problems with one disk (a $10 double sided Bruce Lee disk), which I attributed to being a cheaply manufactured disk. I have had my A310 since last Xmas and have had no other problems. I hope I continue to be a lucky owner since it was this unit that put me on the path to putting together my home theater. I'm just about finished now, at least I hope I am.

Strength:

Excellent picture quality, sound quality. The menus are very clean and appealing

Weakness:

It will not play CDRecordable disks.

I've had one for more than a year and never had a problem with it. It has a lot of features, is easy to use with excellent sound & picture quality. Before buying it, I research many others DVD players and found that for the price was the one that gave the best quality and features in a recognized brand.
