Mitsubishi DD 4020 DVD Players

Mitsubishi DD 4020 DVD Players

DESCRIPTION

the DD-4020 raises the bar for an entry-level DVD player. It includes features and technologies that many manufacturers reserve only for their top-of-the-line models. The DD-4020 includes component video output, a 10-bit digital video processor, a 24-bit/96 kHz digital audio processor, and a DTS audio bit-stream output.

Strength:

nice remote configuration

Weakness:

Not reliable at all. Freezes up and powers off. Can not use without unpluging and pluging back in

Worked for one week then had to unplug and plug back in every time I want to use it. Bought 2 of them (one for my mom) and it does the same thing.

Strength:

I bought it b/c the remote seemed very vell designed & user friendly for someone like my Dad who is 70, has big fingers and isn't very technically inclined.

Weakness:

Will not allow you to hook it up through a VCR.

This is a review of the DD-4030 I bought this for my Dad who has all Mitsubishi products but I'm returning it because you cannot hook this DVD player up through a VCR without triggering Macrovision -- whether you have pressed the record button on your VCR or not. Perhaps Mitsubishi is unaware that home computers now have DVD burners and it is not unreasonable to expect that someone might want to make a VHS copy of a DVD which is not protected by copyright law. While I understand the concern Studios have about pirating videos, beaking copyright law should be my choice, not that of a manufacturer. I deeply resent the paternalistic attitude Mitsubishi has taken in this matter and am furious that I'll now have to deal with returning the unit.

Strength:

picture looks good it has played every movie i put in w/o skipping etc

Weakness:

the lcd display sucks...you can't really see anything even when it's at it's brightest...i wish they woulda used a brighter flourescent green color that matched my HK receiver the audio output doesn't seem as loud and clean sounding as my old JVC player

Review is for Model # DD-4030 Well i was looking for a reliable no frills player to replace my 3 yr. old piece of sh-t JVC xv-d701bk (which didn't work most of the time)...This player so far (had it for 1 week) has played every movie i have put in it flawlessly...there are not many buttons on the front panel, just the basic transport controls...the lcd is very plain and i can't really read it...the rear panel has optical and coax dig outs,s-video,composite,and component...the remote is decent i guess and i like the auto resume function when you hit the stop button and it also has a black level control...i decided on this one cuz it was low cost $112 @ Bestbuy and came with a 1 year parts/ 6 mos. labor warranty so i figured it might be built better than the others in the same price range...but only time will tell

Strength:

Makes a good paper weight

Weakness:

Has a mind of its own, works when it wants to.

What a POS! Got this free with my big screen and it''s absolutely JUNK! Half the time it won''t power up. When it does power up and I try to eject a disc, it powers off. If by chance I can get a disc to play, it''svery picky about the disc. The slightest smudge or imperfection causes the unit to flip out. My experience is not an isolated incident . A co-worker had the same issues with his.If you made the mistake and bought one of these, GET YOUR MONEY BACK!

Strength:

Great quality, easy to use. (A major strength is the company behind it and their customer service)

I purchased this unit, within 2 weeks i had a problem with not being able to turn it on without unplugging it and plugging it back in. I called The Good Guys they were most unhelpful. The Good Guys refered me to Mitsubishi''s Consumer Relations Department. I found them to be the most helpful. They took care of me in a very timely manor and exchanged my DD-4020 when The Good Guys just pushed me along. Needless to say Mitsubishi has kept a loyal customer whereas The Good Guys has lost one. Thank you to Mitsubishi for caring for their customers as always!

Strength:

Lightweight. Easy to carry to and from repair shop.

Weakness:

Refuses to cooperate with simple commands, like: "Play this DVD!"

Lasted 6 months (just in time for the 100% warranty to run out!) Now it won''t even play a new DVD completely without actually shutting off! Also freezes if unused for more than a couple days. Have to unplug/replug power to reset. Mitsubishi has been very little help. "Part only after 6 months" seems to be their mantra. Never again!

Strength:

Picture and sound were fine for the two times it actually worked.

Weakness:

This unit died after only TWO uses!

Bought it to replace a dead Sony, and was furious after paying $100 installation charge to have it go bust in less than a week! No clue what the problem is, but will be trading it in back at the store for a Panasonic. Load tray and scanning were considerably louder than my Sony. When I called the store for an exchange, I was told that mine is the second they've sold with a similar fate.
